This .22LR shortage is starting to piss me off.

Companies that sell products to make money don't care about principal, they care about making money. It's supply and demand. It's not just ammo manufacturers that do this, I'm sure if you were in the business you would do the same. It sucks, ya I know, but do we really have to cry about it online every time we buy a box of ammo?

No one is crying. Some chose to not to be gouged even if it means not shooting for a while until the prices stabilize. and for all we know, it's not the retailers that started it, it very well may be the distributors/importers.

FWIW, I too saw the writing on the wall and have a substantial stockpile bought and paid for long before the current pricing. So I'm still shooting and not shedding any tears.

Some valid points, some cry babies, either way it's awfully negative around here, just wishing people would see the positives once in a while. I agree, higher prices suck, but it is what it is. And the blaming the hoarders for a shortage BS? I mean come on. Your a stockpiler which is totally fine in my books and your defending the many who blame guys like you? Really I'm not looking for a drawn out argument, im just frustrated by this thread

I feel sorry for the new shooters just starting out but really this is a sport/hobby where you have to pay to play. Always has been and always will be. My only advice would be to not panic and buy up all you can see. The exception is if you find a cheap price, then you stack it as deep as you can afford.

I look at .22lr going for 8 cents a round (if not more) and think about how a round of 7.62x39 is going for 15 cents. Two shots from a .22lr or one from a proper centerfire rifle? I know how my shooting math works out for me.

The us dollar is what you have to pay the American suppliers for the goods @ 1.25 exchange that will drive the cost up in a heartbeat.
A gun shop will be paying 25% more when he lands it. You need a decent margin to operate your business to cover costs. That $1.00 last year or more would net you 1.33 at a selling price.
That same item today would land @ 1.25 and to keep the same margin you need to sell it @$1.66. It doesn't take long to see the prices are driven by the US dollar. I would also think that their margins are somewhat higher to stay in business. That is only a 25% margin pretty slim. So that .065¢ round a couple of years ago year now becomes .081¢simple business math. If you try and operate at less tghan a 25% margin you will end up closing your door.

22lr ammo was 4¢ a year ago by the brick. Then why isn't ammo selling for $25.00 a brick then instead of $40+??

i got lucky and found a smaller store this month around my area that had well over 1000 - 50 round boxs for 3.20 of american egale, CCI, CCI quiet, they said it was probaly going to be there only shipment all year..... Long story short the shortage will not effect me now :p ....maybe....

Check out Cabela's folks.... online has 22LR and WMR in stock of various manufacturers and types for online ordering.... thought i'd pass this along as I've gotten enough 22 ammo over the last bit to do me for ages...

Was at Cabelas in Barrie today :

a ton load of bucket'o'bullet remington for $100.00
M-22 for $80.00 per 1 000
500 winchester in a wood box for $40.00

Picked myself some buckets, great little ammo for plinking with the kids and gopher plinking :p

100$ is a far from the 69$ I paid for a bunch of those but eh, could be worse, we could have an ammo shortage :p
