It's time to sell all the guns and start buying bows and hording arrow heads.
Pretty much what I did. Now I have a whole room of stuff.
It's time to sell all the guns and start buying bows and hording arrow heads.
That pretty much sums it up. But it's not just rimfire ammo. I reload for all my centerfire rifles, and used to be able to go buy bullets and powder as I needed them. Now, every time I'm in a store or on a website, I'm doing a quick check for my favourites for any calibre, and buying them if I think I will use them in the next couple of years. I'm not hoarding like some are, but if I had more time and was at the range as often as I wish I could be (business and family come first!), I'm not sure I would find enough of my favourite components to keep me going. Usually when I do find what I like, there's only a box or two left, so I can't really "stock up" even if I wanted to.
The funny thing is, in my industry manufacturers are doing much the same to the retailers. I find that products I used to order as I needed are now always on backorder, so me the retailer has to start stockpiling because the manufacturers won't warehouse in Canada anymore. They want their products hitting the docks and going straight to retailers, with no wait time. So if my order misses the boat, I'm out of stock for a couple of months. But at least my industry does have the excuse of dropping sales and margins - I don't think the ammo companies can use that one!
The joys of big business.
My philosophy has always been the same: I buy ammo whenever I see it for a good price (below average). Doesnt matter it its the middle of February or the end of September. Its carried me through the rough times, and ensures I'll never not have at least a box of my favourite rifle load when I leave for a hunt.
In terms of .22LR, I only had a bolt action until the the last couple years. Prior to that I knew I was getting a semi eventually so I bought a variety of bricks of different brands and types so I'd have lots to try out. Ive been OK, going through that pile, and havent had to pay current prices yet (most ive paid was $32/500).
I think there is alot more people hoarding than people admit.
Those loud people who whine and got caught with their pants down Im guessing are the minority
They still like to be heard and hate it when they see prices over $40 a brick and peoples stashes.
Omg CTC has yet again raised their prices on 22 ammo.
$2+ on ammo.
If this isnt straight up gouging by either them or importers or both. I dont know what is!
CTC is absolutely gouging people. I literally stopped going to Canadian Tire because they raised their prices so much on .22lr. I used to be in their store 3+ times per week even if it was just to look around... I told myself if they fixed their prices in the future that I'd consider going back but their prices have been raised 3-5 times depending on the product.
They want $11 per 50rd box of rem subsonic.
Pricing on most of their 22lr has gone up 50% in under 1 year.
Literally?
What proof of gouging have you come across? Have you witnessed the store's invoicing showing how much they paid for 22lr from their supplier?
