DPMS .308 Recon VS Armalite AR10T

The bit you left out is intended purpose.

I wouldn't want a 16 inch barrel on a .308 AR if I was shooting longer distances.

I suppose I would if I were only shooting short ranges 50-200M. Standing or improvised positions like stuff you come across on a 3 gun range...

Not that it's incapable of going further but it's progressively worse the further you go.

Honestly I would go with the Armalite. Their quality in my view is much better, however from what i hear the New G2 recons have really stepped up the QC.

Heard some still some quality issues with the g2, pretty much hit or miss on that, I wouldnt take the risk.
I would go with the ar10t, Caramel has one you can pm him for some info.

I hear you on the shorter barrel D23. Again, only like it because its handier.

Intended purpose is medium to longer range precision but not too heavy ideally. I have several 18.5 - 22" .308's that handle these ranges no problem. They are bolt action's however. I'm not in the 26" barrel and up camp needed for 500 - 1000 meters. 20" is the longest I'd want to go on a .308 AR.

Guess I answered my own question, the AR10T.

Thanks for the QC heads up on the DPMS. Wasn't aware of this. Will do a bit more reading on that.

Anymore tips appreciated between the two models.

You certainly dont need 26 inch to accurately hit 500 yards with a 308, 20 inch is ideal for that.

The Brits and the Americans are using 16" 7.62 as DMR and sniper rifles ( LMT and KAC ) Using the right load is the big factor.

I did some calculation on the ballistic calculator awhile ago, 16" is good to go out to 800yrds with 17X gr bullets as long as it is loaded to "manly" velocity.

Having owned both, the g2 would be my choice.
The g2 is closer to the dimensions and weight of a 223 ar, making it more versatile to use as a carbine.
Quality is on par with the 10t. Never heard of any qc issues at all with the g2.
Accuracy isn't so much better with the 10 t to justify the added barrel length, and weight. Using it as a carbine isn't fun.

Again, the barrel length isn't the only size or ergonomic difference. The g2 has a much more compact reciever vs a typical 308 ar. This makes it better balanced and more compact overall.
I seriously would take one over an sr25 or mws, after having lived with all three.

The Armalite AR-10T is very accurate, complety reliable, the trigger is perfect, cant compare to the G2 but being sub MOA, it's a big satisfaction to shoot but it's very heavy... JP.

Check out the multi part James Yeager DPMS G2 review on YouTube. Apparently the G2 is the first 308AR to run well through a carbine class. Until the G2, He claims he has never seem an AR10's finish a class without issue.

James gets a bit long winded with his opinions and its getting to be annoying. The CF uses/used the AR10 in afghanistan, I frigging highly doubt they used that rifle in a DMR role if its a finicky piece of crap. A DMR rifle has to work when its needed, even more so than any other role.

I've had 2 AR10's, and never had a hiccup out of either, and one had the CF upper that they sold to Wolverine. At 24 inches with the Badger rail, now that was a heavy gun

And this is EXACTLY what caught my eye regarding the G2 to give it serious consideration.

That's some very impressive grouping caramel !! And thats exactly why the AR10T caught my eye as well.

You guys are not making this decision any easier :p

For me a rifle, can have plenty of qualitys but it's imperative that this rifle be very precise and fully reliable above all, pretty useless in my book to have a rifle that have great ergonomics or low weight if it doesnt deliver outstanding precision first in a full proof reliability mode... JP.:)
