50 Beowulf Metal Magazine Review

Rcmp can follow their own bulletin, until that is changed I have zero fear of using any beo mags with 5.56/.223

Neither do I, We can only force the RCMP to stick to their bulletin in numbers.
Stop giving them ammunition by accusing our dealers without facts.
Funny how I'm accused for saying without knowing, but people quickly jump on the dealer's throat for selling illegal product, without knowing any facts themselves.

If the manufacturer themselves state that they DO NOT make a .50 Beowulf magazine, then these are prohibited. There are no 2 ways about it. What you say and what they have allegedly said to you is not relevant. It's about what's in writing at the end of the day that counts. If these are not SPECIFICALLY made for the .50 Beowulf round, then they're converted. Which these clearly seem to be.

There is a good reason why everyone else is still waiting for these to be imported. Including one who claims to have been working on these from long before SHOT...

Buyer beware guys... This one could get ugly.

I'm sick and tired of all this pussy talk. Stop analyzing this to death, and making an issue of this. We can buy these, because the authorities have ok'd their distribution and sale. So I'll use them. In the meantime, let's all enjoy what's available to us, until we hear otherwise. 5/30's are widely available to those who continue to feel nervous about these legal products.

So mine were waiting at home for me. The packaging is marked with .50 Beowulf and has the C Products name on them. Based on size, these would not be the 30 rounds nags they make.

I'm chalking this up to a miscommunication from an employee who was unaware of a product they do make.

This.

Why do some of you make arguments for the enemy? :jerkit:

... and this.

Yeah, yeah, that's great... let's just form their arguments for them. You don't like these mags? Great; don't buy them then. Stop being whiny little tattle-tails over nothing.

can anybody comment on the legth comparison to a LAR mag please and thank you?

pic perhaps ?

The C Products Beo mag is in the middle. On the left are two coupled RRA LAR mags, and on the right is an ATRS pistol mag. The Beo mag is quite similar in length to the ATRS mag, which I actually really like. Good length for both my AR's and Tavor. HTH...

Cut Booossted some slack boys, he tried and failed to get a .50 Beo mag made offshore and instead has relied on scooping up cheap mags and dumping them at predatory pricing levels on the EE.

Boossted didn't try to get mags made over seas. That was Northern Republic Magazine that asked E-Lander to do that, and Boossted is not one and the same with either company (I know both parties :) ).

Everything Boossted is saying is correct though. If the RCMP actually reviewed these magazines and said they were good to go, then the E-Lander .50 Beowulf mags would've flooded the market years ago. This is definitely a case of don't ask, don't tell.

Honestly guys, I don't think the RCMP really want to push this .50 Beowulf magazine issue very hard. Let's rewind to what Northern Republic Magazine went through, basically that company got torpedoed by the RCMP when the RCMP told them that .50 Beowulf mags should be pinned to only accept 5 rounds of .223, because that's the smallest calibre than can fit into the magazine. The RCMP knew that the magazine Northern Republic designed was purpose built for a .50 Beowulf and perfectly followed the letter of the law. Regardless, the RCMP firearm's lab gave the impression that they just didn't like these Beowulf mags and wanted the issue to simply go away, so they came up with this curve ball excuse and let it ride.

That said, if Northern Republic Magazine went to court over the RCMP's decision, there would've only be two outcomes: 1.) The judge sides with industry and we get multi-calibre mags that hold 16 rounds of .223; or 2.) The judge sides with the RCMP and any magazine that can hold cartridges smaller than the firearm's intended cartridge would immediately have to be pinned to only accept 5 or 10 rounds (depending on type of firearm) of the smallest calibre that mag can hold else wise it becomes prohibited. Either outcome would've turned the gun world in Canada upside down.

Personally, I think the above is precisely why the RCMP hasn't pushed too hard on these Beowulf mags, it's just asking for a fight that they really don't want to see the end result of, no matter who wins. They either get to be the government body who give the nod to 1/2 of standard capacity AR15 mags, or they're the people that instantly prohibited millions of magazines. The Federal government really needs to step in and just do away with magazine capacity laws. They're pointless and bureaucratically wasteful as they stand currently. But, they probably won't, and because they won't, the poor RCMP will have to continue to tip toe around these .50 Beowulf magazines.

I suggest you know what you're talking about before making that kind of claim. I had absolutely nothing to do with that and have certainly not tried to do it on my own.

Thanks for clearing that up quickly.

I got my mags, and as promised, here are some pics of 2 coupled together along with a single Beowulf mag and a pair of coupled LAR15 mags for comparison. Enjoy. ;)

The coupled Beowulf mags look pretty gnarly, hahahah!!!

Cheers!

I just bought 3 from Bartons and I think my costs came to about $55/mag with shipping and taxes. I dont really know if that is a great deal or not (new to black rifles) but it sure is a heck of a lot cheaper than AI mags!

The hidden cost I think though is that I will be able to much more effectively waste ammo since I wont have to reload the magazine all the time...

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

So I went to Bartons and shelled out the extra cash to get 5 magazines, I'll be heading to the range shortly to do a review using 223 (sorry no actual beowulf).

My initial impressions are that the mags feel well built

They drop free.

These mags are pinned to actually allow for 15 rounds of .223 I did manage to force 16 in there but it was tight and may not feed reliably all the time. Though it did feed fine for me with the one i tried.

Intial tests using some dummy rounds and my cheapo norc AR15 show that they do seem to cycle the round perfectly fine while manually racking the action.

Due to the crimping I seem to be unable to remove the spring and follower. But we all kinda knew that was likely.

They are a nice grey in color.

Ranger plates fit nicely.

Rounds are removable with ease.

Mags are clearly marked "50 Beowulf 5 Cartridge Capacity" On the floor plate and on the side of the magazine

Now for the bad.

As I was humming and hawing over my soon to be purchase, me and one of the guys at Bartons got to chatting. He has informed me that Bartons here in good ole Grande Prairie is the only store in Canada that has these magazines. He stated that he has a friend over at C Products Defense that informed him that there are no mags even on order from any other suppliers. Whether or no this is true remains to be seen, but this is the most information I've heard from any other supplier about where the magazines are and when they will be getting here. They do however seem to have a good amount of stock and he said they have about 500 more coming in.

Now work was rained out this morning but seems to have died out. regardless I've got the day off. I'm gonna get showered and cleaned up and head to the range and do some magazine dumps and various rates of fire.

Just got back from the range. They feed 223 reliably.

I am using a norc ar15 from Marstar. Which failed to allow the magazines to seat unless the bolt was open. When tried with a daniel defense ar15 Ray from Barton's allowed me to try and the magazines would seat properly regardless of whether the bolt was open or closed. This leads me to believe that this is likely only a norinco problem as they are built somewhat out of spec.

BUUUUT after trying to seat a loaded magazine at home I was able to get it to seat with the bolt closed without effort. Not sure what the issue was at the range. But I was trying multiple magazines and smacking the quite hard. And this now seems to be a non issue at home. I think I was just used to how easily 5 round magazines seat. Aka I was just being a wuss and not pushing and smacking the mags hard enough. Still it was much easier to seat them with the daniel defense. Go figure.

Did some dumps and some various shooting speeds without issue. I'd say I ran about 300 rounds through 5 magazines without any failures except one. The bolt on my ar15 locked back while there was one round still in the magazine. When I hit the bolt release it chambered the round just fine.

So there you have it. If theres anything I missed just ask and I shall answer if I am able.

Thank you PrettyBoy! I've been looking for pics of these w/ Ranger Plates and in mag pouches for a while, good information! Glad they work for you!
