The SL8 Mods, Info and FAQ Thread

Guys, is there a mod to keep the charging handle locked to one side without flipping back after the first shot?
(It will prove usefull for a specific shooting discipline here)

I have been thinking of drilling and taping a small hole in the top of the bolt carrier above the charging handle. Then using a flush allen scew to keep it in the locked position. This way it would still be easy to remove the bolt carrier if you needed to.

I have a hard time racking my brain around how come you need it to stay out when firing. Been a soldier for 30 years and a competition shooter for 37 and I am lost to why you need this.

Moe: I can understand your confusion. Here in Holland we have a derivative of IPSC (www.ipsc.org).
In this version we shoot you have to unload and show clear before moving to the next position. the moving and showing clear in included in the overal time, so the faster you do this, the faster you will be.

If the charging handle is still locked to the side, grabbing it will be a fraction faster and in this game every microsecond counts.

Wow. I shoot IPSC too but never need to do that. Oh well each region has there own twist on the rules. If shooting multigun and we need to ditch the rifle we need only to place on safe or clear. then when the stage is done walk back and clear each gun. I now see what you want and why you want it. I would just practice grabbing that cocking handle. I can do it pretty fast on my SL8.

I bought this set from Dlask a few years ago but only ever mounted the bottom rail. ht tp://dlaskarms.com/products/h-k-sl8-rails but I see they're not in stock. You might email them and see if they're getting (or making) any more.
The Hera stuff is really nice but $$ ht tp://store.theshootingcentre.com/products/hera-arms-hk-sl8-side-rail-set

reason is i dont want the hassle if i get stopped by a CO and they see the camera and demand(are they allowed to)
the sd card out of it.
not that i am doing anything activity that breaks any hunting laws,i cant been arsed with the hassle,if it came to be.

Just a small tip for SL8/G36/HK243 owners.

The barrel wrench is pretty expensive and if you can live with the fact that you have to remove the gasblock, I have a good option. (which is a hell of a lot cheaper)
www.tacticool22.com sells a S&W 15-22 barrelwrench for less then $30 usd. The teeth 2mm shorter, but overal it fits really well and I tested it and works perfectly.

Did you remove your gas block to use the wrench or did you modify the wrench? Do you use the trunion rod?

Where would a guy be able to find the parts in order to convert a SL8-5 to run a ACR style Stock, and also get a set of 2 small top rails instead of the full length polymer rail?

Hera Arms makes an aluminum lower that accepts ACR and AR stocks. It is not imported into Canada anymore as Hera was slow to deliver on orders and overpriced. The quality was high but there products were hard to move. The only importer was Gravel and has discontinued working with Hera Arms. You best bet now is to order from a Hera Arms dealer in Europe. There are dealers from the US but the feds there will stop shipment. Had one on my SL8. It was sweet but added more weight to an already heavy rifle.

Saskatoon Gun works has the Hera Arms BCK gen 2 that allows you to use the ACR stock. Not sure if they have the stocks, didn't check. Bought mine from Wolverine quite a while ago. Does make the rifle heavy, but found it actually balances a little better than original as the stock counterweights the heavy barrel. Wouldn't want mine any other way now.

Sorry but nope. Look closer. Not in stock. As per my post #995 it is unlikely they will ever get more.
