TNW or jr carbine?

I think the JR carbine is ugly, boxy and pocky......I was going to buy a CX4 , but then I handled an Areo Survival rifle at the gun show, i really liked the balance and feel of the gun. I also like how it excepts AR furniture. All the videos on u tube show the gun operating fine. Accuracy is the only remaining concern i have with this rifle. But i plan on biting the bullet anyways and buying one when Wolverine supplies get more colors back in stock! :)

I can stand and hit an 8x8 armor plate at 100yards consistantly and Im not the best shot by any means. 4x scope. From the bench it hits every time. Not sure on group size at 100 from the bench though. Ive been informed the 40sw mags work reliably in the 9mm rifle too if that kinda thing matters to you.

My 9mm JR has not shown any of the "jammomatic" signs that Mike goes on about, is compatible with AR furniture, is non-restricted, and accurate enough to consistently ring the 200yr gong at the range. Reliable enough that I run it in our IDPA carbine matches and have not had any issues.

I agree though that at the price they list at, you are not far away from a decent AR platform.

thanks i greatly appreciate the info! i have a Burris AR332 sitting on my desk waiting patiently for a home..... :)

For what it is worth, friend of mine had the JR and it was plagued with jamming issues, the retailer and manufacturer were absolutely no help on the issue either.

For what it's worth I absolutely love my CX4. I handled the other two and they felt like toys compared to this thing. No rattles with this gun. I'm still dialing it in and accessorizing it, but no regrets at all. Functions beautifully. I almost bought the TNW, but this thing just felt better for me personally. Everyone has their preferences though.

Thureon Defense for sure. Reliable, accurate, a very solid gun. Have one in 9mm and one in 45acp. Has an AR trigger group so easy upgrade, standard M4 adjustable stock so easy upgrade. Glock mags which is a big plus as you can find them anywhere and they work fine with the KCI cheap ones too. Check out cost and availability of a Baretta CX4 mag $89 at Cabelas

Wolverine had KCi 9mm for $15 each with free shipping if you got 10.

Check out the Youtube videos on bump firing the Thureon. Do that for a while and you may need a new firing pin but Thureon will send you a free replacement. The newer ones are much better than the early ones.

Most fun you can have in a non-restricted pistol calibre carbine.

I've owned a CX-4 Storm and currently have a Thureon GA. Both have run with no problems. I didn't like the non-adjustable stock on the Storm or the sight towers. It worked find with both Beretta and Check-Mate magazines and any brand ammo. It does have the last round hold open which the Thureon doesn't. Overall both are great for a day at the range when you don't want to burn through .223 ammo.

Of all the 9mm rifles mentioned I have never used or handled any of them except for my JRC 9mm. I had a few (like 3 or 4 or 5 times maybe) cases stove pipe when I first got it (used) and have since then put another 500 to 1000 rounds through it with no issues. Mine eats my pistol reloads and those consist mostly of LRN with some plated RN every once in a while.

In fact, it came to me used in a left hand shooter config and I switched it back to right hand and it was missing a small internal part (cant remember what it was) and the JR people shipped me the part along with a spare or 2 at no charge, not even for the shipping.

OP if you are in the Niagara region, you are welcome to try mine out any time.

This is a very interesting discussion as I have been interested in getting a PCC but I think most of them are overpriced for what you get when I compare them to the low end AR rifles which go for about the same money. Then when you see the problems that are quite prevalent, I start thinking of a 9mm AR upper.

I understand what you are saying but for ME at least, the nice thing about a PCC is that it can go anywhere you can legally shoot. I take mine up to the moose camp for a fun day at the local pit but I have to leave my AR-15 at home in the safe :( I can take it to work with me, leave it in the truck all day and head to the range right after work, I cant do that with my AR-15. In fact MY club doesnt allow restricted rifles so I have to drive farther to shoot it at another range and it costs me $30 for a day pass at a VERY BUSY range.

Dont get me wrong, I love shooting my AR but I can shoot my JR more often with less hassles to do it.

i really enjoy my TNW survival rifle, it took about 10 mags until i experienced no stove piping, just polished up the feed ramp as well and it really improved the feeding. i have used 40S&W and 9mm glock mags. accuracy is pretty good with the rifle and they make conversions to 40s&w and 45acp and making a 22lr as well (waiting for these to come to canada) the scope you get with the rifle is serviceable but a nice red dot makes the world of difference. Super convenient to carry into the woods to shoot and easy to take apart and clean.

Would highly recommend the rifle

When you say accurate , what kind of grouping @100yrds ?? with the Thureon Defense ?

Usually smacking gongs but the last time I shot a group at 100m, the thureon was about 3 to 4 moa which is about what my stock ar will shoot. That's with a cheap red dot or low magnification optics. Drop in a Geissele trigger and nice optics and i'm sure it will shoot better. Stock thureon trigger is about 7lbs.

It's non restricted, handles like an AR, cheap fun.

I've had 2 JRCs (sold one unfired) a couple Kel-Tec Sub-2000's and a CX4. The JRC's are ok, but too heavy and the long barrel and short hand guard look goofy. The TNW looks even worse to me. The Glock S2K was a POS jamomatic, the firing pin almost missed the primer and the safety was loose. Also took Vault a looong time too replace it under warranty. I sold the replacement unfired. I have a Beretta mag S2K now and it's rock solid reliable with all factory ammo and all my handloads right down to 95gr. cast boolit cat sneeze loads. It's a keeper. My favorite has become the CX4 though. The sights are certainly better than the S2k, they're really not that bad. I did install a Vortex Sparc though. It's super fun and accurate plus it shoots all the ammo the S2K does even better. Also has a chrome lined barrel so durability should never be an issue. Sure, Beretta mags at Cabela's are expensive but hey, who on CGN buys them at Cabela's anyway when we have Northern Republic Magazine as a site sponsor and also Canadian Safety Source has cheap mags as well. Both sell Mec-Gar which are just as reliable as OEM Beretta mags. Apparently Mec-Gar was the supplier for Beretta OEM mags at one point so they certainly know their stuff. And at $36.99 each, why not?

Bought my 12 year old daughter the TNW and she loves it. We have had 1 FTE in 300 rounds through it. For me it does feel a bit odd holding it, but we put a grip on the lower rail and feels just fine now.....so fine I want one for myself as well now, but looking for the flat earth or OD green but no one seems to have them in stock.

I wish TNW would post a damn color index on their website so i know exactly what each color looks like (and there name).... some are obvious like black, and the tiger patterns.... but there is sort of a greenish looking color (presume its OD green) , a greyish one, and then a tan looking one (the color that i want). anybody know what the tan color one is called ?

fde, flat dark earth

I have only noticed the 5 colors. Tiger green and pink are pretty obvious. Then black, OD green, and dark earth (what i think looks tan)........are you trying to make things harder for me saying there is yet another color to choose from?

Also to point out we bought my daughter an extra glocken mag to go along with the KCI one that comes in the box and use both equally, so no difference there so far. Might have to check a 40 out for the heck of it. Most of the ammo has been American eagle but also did one box of 50 blazers. We tossed a vortex sparc II on it and left the one that was included in the box. shoots great out to 50 yards.
