Hi, I was looking at picking up a 12 gauge pump that can handle 3.5 inch shells. I was initially going to buy a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum Waterfowl edition but after watching numerous 870 expresses jamming while shooting clays I want something that functions reliably with any size shell low brass or high 2.75 to 3.5. I was wondering what everyone suggests id like to spend under $800. I was looking at the Benellis on the bass pro shop website do they ship within Canada and are they American prices? They seem a bit low. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Mossberg 835. It is a pig but they are reliable and work. Most 3.5" pumps handle like pigs anyways. Might as well have one that can take a beating.

And they kick like a mule. At least mine did
I would take the 535 over the 835 if mossy is the choice but I sold both of mine and kept the BPS and 870 in 3 1/2
Cheers

I'd check out the super Nova. It's a goddam ugly ass gum but wow do they ever shoot nice if it fits you.

Buy what fits you they all do they same thing. Go bang. Winchester SXP comes in 3.5" but make sure if you look at one it's been covered by the safety recall. (got to like a safety forward of the trigger otherwise don't bother looking at it.)

Browning BPS is a nice Shooter too. Basically in your budget you can get any pump out there but a new Ithaca.

Don't shy away from the 870 Super Mag. A lot of the bad stuff about sticky extraction is easily cured with a little home gun smithing. If you buy one and experience any issues most of the shotgun gurus here will get it running for you.

Bass Pro prices are in US bucks, not necessarily available in Canada at all and they will NOT ship firearms in Canada period (and are stopping the shipping of in the US as well) - have to go to the store.

And regardless of everything you "hear" the 870 Express supermag still outsells every other 3.5" shotgun on the market by a wide margin - that doesn't happen because they are "junk".

Of course you could go with the Winchester SXP in 3.5" - the ones that fire as soon as you operate the pump (no trigger pulling needed) :)

But at your stated budget I would get the 535 Mossberg (which is a very functional shotgun), a few boxes of shells and with the left over money a high end shoulder pad.

I can think of better ways to spend my day then showing how tough I am by repeatedly experiencing 70 pounds of recoil every time I pull the trigger :)

I've used every one that's been listed, Mossberg 500,535,835 remmy 870, and I own the benelli nova and Winchester sxp(she's out for the recall), il tell you what I hate 870s, my cuzin loves his, the mossbergs will are the the ak47 of hunting shotguns, they are cheap ugly and work well and theres a good chance you get a slug barell combo with them, the benelli nova I hate it, I paid the most for it and I hate it, I don't like the front bead sight and its feels weird to hold BUT the whole drop a shell with the use of the button on the bottom of the grip is an awesome feature, That being said you cannot hate the Winchester, its literally the best ive shot and will take it over anything ive used, you can pump it as fast as possible, its light and from what I felt ive had my savage .17hmr kicks more then this thing its a beauty and I will keep it till it turns to dust in about 100000000 years

I have a benelli supernova and it hasn't let me down. It is a very good gun. I do plan on getting a semi auto this year, but if it doesn't work out I will shoot the benelli for another season. Comfortech stock also works well.

Thanks for all the feed back everyone. Im going to head to a gun shop with a large selection and see what one fits the bill I have been really leaning towards the Super Nova but I will give the Mossbergs a look as well. Ive shot one of those winchesters they shoot real nice and the quality is a lot better than what I've seen with the 870s. I don't really wanna consider the BPS cause they are such high priced.

I got a Benelli Nova on sale last summer, so it didn't break the bank. Its been a good gun although stock the recoil from shooting 3.5" day after day hunting waterfowl made for a pretty tender shoulder, the stock pad has all the cushion of a puck. I added a limbsaver to it and now its almost pleasant to shoot. Although I usually just shoot 2 3/4 or 3". I find the only thing 3.5" gets me is sore. If I were picking one I'd go to a store and get measured up so you know what your correct length of pull is and what guns fit you the best then wait for one of them to come on sale and buy it. Good Luck

The supernova comes with shims to adjust drop and cast but not LOP, this is done with different recoil pads. I have shot 3.5" and it was not too bad at all, but shooting at birds is different than shooting a target.
