Ive never seen anything like those before, but would guess that they are police or military practice rounds of some sort.

nothing special. Its simunition for training. Military, Police and I'm sure security companies use it.

I find it jams in the Sigs often, the 5.56 works well in the C8s. The belts of Sim for the C9 jams ones in a while too.

What you found is spent military simunition, the headstamp/maker IVI is Canadian and supplies the CF. They may have contracts with law enforcement also, I'm not sure.

The military really doesn't like people leaving the range with this stuff, every soldier will typically do a range declaration as follows:

"I have no live rounds, empty cases, or parts thereof in my possesion, SIR!"

A soldier who removes such items from the range may be charged. I'm not sure the legalities of civilians taking it or owning it? You may want to check into this, it could be disposed of at any military amnesty box if you need to get rid of it.

I still have permanent scars on my hands/arms from this stuff. Can be nasty at close range, manages to tear threw clothes without any problem and you are picking little pieces of out your skin.

Regards,

There's no rule against civvies acquiring it. The declaration is probably to prevent theft, or prevent someone messing with a live round in his weapon in barracks.

Having said that, we always did a range sweep before we left (Gagetown Range Control saw to that) - apparently the folks who left this stuff behind had no such manners.

The unfired 40 would be a keeper. The rest is probably just its value as brass scrap.

I have found lots of fired 9mm manmarker Simunition at various ranges, but never found the blank or the 5.56x45 version.
How much did you find?
Have any extras to trade? PM sent.

So how does it work? Is the plastic end fly out of the barrel? Or it stops at BFA adaptor?

It's basically like shooting a normal round, the bullet is made of plastic and filled with flourescent paint. They sting a little when you get shot, have a tendency to tear threw clothes and leave scars, but are more or less fine to shoot each other with. The military use these somewhat regularly, and the 5.56 seems to work fairly well. Unfortunately, use of simunition also requires the use of a mask and sometimes neck protector and a cup. These are much nastier than normal paintballs or airsoft pellets, espiacelly at close range. Long range is not so bad as they seem to slow down quickly.

It would be crazy if there was some event where everyone could bring their AR's and pistols and load up with simunition to play a few rounds of 'paintball' in an old factory or something just for fun. It would never be allowed for civilians to do that here in Canada though.

Thank you for explanation,
So these would be good for body armor and not t shirt. And the rest of the rifle stays the same without any other adaptors? As if it was for use with regular ammo?

you can shoot simunitions with a regualr rifle however there is a bolt conversion if you want the rifle to actually function properly

you will also notice that the rim is slightly rebated, this prevents a simunition bolt from being able to chamber a live round properly.

earlier 5.56mm sim used an aluminum plunger I see the new stuff uses plastic.

About 10 years there was a defence and security trade show at the conference centre attached to the Westin Hotel in downtown Ottawa. It connects to NDHQ. I was 10 minutes late for a staff meeting with the best excuse I could think. 'Sorry sir, I was firing an MP5 full auto at the hotel.'
