Tikka T3 CTR.

the t 3 ctr has a 20 inch barrel will it be ok for longer range l think the price tag will be 1050 dollars

20' bbl is not a detraction for "long range"... depending on what you mean by that.....Giving up a little bit of MV, but not significantly so.

Here she is, finally! I picked up a muzzle brake from ATR, had a minor fitting issue to get the timing right, but they had a simple solution to getting it sorted out. The only thing I need to do (besides get it out and shoot it) is to source out a set of lower rings. I think the scope is just a *tad* higher than it should be for my liking.

Nice rifle. I like the bottom metal they're using in this T3 model. I also really hope the production of this rifle takes off, so maybe, just maybe, a higher quantity of TRG mags being produced may bring their cost down. Damn their expensive mags.

I see lots of people looking for these rifles but no stock anywhere........looking for one in 308 with the set trigger if anyone has any info on where to get without paying more than retail

I'm ready to put down 100% of the price and wait as long as it take (within reason) for a CTR 308 stainless. After emailing all or our sponsors, it was clear to me that they can't control what rifles they will eventually receive.

I hear ya Kosmic. In the same boat. No Tikkas (CTR or varmint 243) anywhere.

Seriously thinking of having one or two shipped over from Europe. I have a friend who is a dealer there and he has these in stock. The paperwork is not too bad but will end up paying an extra $400 per rifle by the time they are delivered. Come on Stoeger Canada....get the lead out!

Question:

Does the CTR have the wide fore-end similar to the T3 Tactical or T3 Varmint or does it have a thiner profile like those on the T3 Hunters?

Aside (obviously) from the bottom metal/mag inlet, the T3 CTR is different from the T3 Varmint in barrel length, muzzle thread and that wide fore-end attachment. My friend bought a CTR in 308 last year and he bought one of my two Varmint stocks (I made two laminate wood replacements) so that the wide fore-end bit could be attached to his CTR (so it would ride better on the bench rest.) He came to my place last month for a couple days target shooting so I was able to try it... no surprises, it's a typical T3, only different from the Varmint as I already mentioned so it was a fine rifle. If memory serves, surprisingly the CTR is a bit cheaper than the T3 Varmint model.

EDIT: I think he has it for sale now, having splurged on a T3 Sporter in the same caliber.

The wider stock is why I am not interested in the varmint. Please PM me his info if he is looking to sell the CTR.

Man you must be in love with that set trigger. I bet you have posted about it 20 times.

The factory tikka trigger is fine. Plenty light.

No kidding. The set trigger sucks btw. Had them in a few Sako's now and they're terrible. Thankfully the single stage is adjustable to a crisp <2lbs.

The set trigger sucks btw..
to each their own, In Europe a set trigger is far more common than direct or adjustable triggers on hunting rifles which would be my use for the CTR after I rebarrel it.

Having the option of selecting a light trigger pull at will in the field is far more useful and safer than having an adjustable trigger adjusted to less than a lb at all times.

Good points.

I have set triggers on a couple of Steyrs and they're better excecuted than the Sako. Mind you they are double set's and I think thats where the problem lies with me. As you know, Sako's single set trigger (all single sets I'd assume) requires you push it forward to "set" the second stage. This creates a huge amount of over travel after the shot is broke. Which brings me to my biggest complaint; when "set" the sear doesn't seem to break so much as cam over if that makes sense.
Personally I wont run a hunting trigger under 2#. Not because its un-safe, I prefer to be able to confidently place my finger on the trigger and be able to deliberatly break the shot when nerves, stress or exhaustion might make you a little less sensitive to trigger control.
If I still had my Tikka Sporter, I'd trade you straight across for the standard trigger out of the CTR if thats whats holding you back from getting one. Good luck in your search.

Getting a factory installed single set trigger might take getting a new model number created. I went that way with my blued short barreled varmint in 223 a couple of years ago. I wanted the trigger factory installed and tested.
