So recently decided I wanted an extended mag release, to make tapco mags a bit practical. Was gonna go Tapco mag release, but then I read of them breaking very early, like second trip to the range. Its made of plastic apparently.

So I did a search, and it seems Vermont CNC makes a great looking unit:

www.vermontcnc.com/firearm-accessories.html

But... it seems like to get one I need to sign on with "Etsy"...

Anyone try one of these yet?

Anyone know if a Canadian retailer has any of these nice ones in stock?

Also there's an interesting one made by Power Customs too... anyone have one of those?

I'm not sure of that but I bought a plastic mag release from hicaliber and it's done hundreds of mags. It's prob the Tapco one you are referring to

My tapco mag release has managed to withstand months of mag changes with no adverse affects. And it was $9, purchased local. don't know what these other ones cost but add shipping and FX charges.

Got mine off Hical.ca, and have had zero issues with it. Installed it in my living room in about ten-fifteen minutes.

I have one of those releases from Vermont CNC. Beautiful piece. I bought it direct (no etsy) from the owner who was on the sksboards.

I have a tapco mag release on mine, and yes it is plastic, but it's pretty sturdy. I can't forsee it breaking easily. It did take some fitting of course, and I took a tad too much material off, but it works fine. Now if Only I could get the tapco mag to feed right....

Ours will be ready any day now ... steel with a nitride finish.

I prefer steel, as do many here I think.

Even though the cost will be higher than a plastic part it is still quite affordable for anyone who can afford shooting sports as a hobby. Those that have a plastic one installed will have an easy time putting one of these in their rifle and will benefit from its easier reach and compatibilty with the rifle metal.

I suspect a great many plastic Tapco models will show up on the EE soon, so if "cheap" is what you want just wait a little ...

I should know my exact pricing by the end of the week but I am aiming at a retail price between $40 and $50 ... with a bit of luck I may be able to get it just under $40.

No I don't think many here prefer the steel ones .
Also please don't suggest people can't afford more exspensive gadgets. We just know better and use what works.

MagWedge I like yours and I'm in the boat of use what actually works too but given the choice I'd choose metal over plastic for sure.

Thanks for being a Canadian company providing parts we want and need.

I think this release will sell well for sure and whenever possible I support Canadian made guns and gun parts.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

I have had similar feedback both here and at shows ... people seem to want a steel release for their SKS rifles.

I should also mention that in addition to being placed much nearer the trigger, our version will have an adjustment feature built in so you will actually be able to adjust how easily the mag latch can be activated and closed.

A little extra feature or two helps take some of the sting out of the cost of an item, LOL

i would prefer the steel over the plastic. the sks is a robust firearm, and can be roughly mistreated. anything that could break on it broke off by 1955 and was either redesigned better or obviously didn`t need to be there. if you have plastic parts, they may break or otherwise fail during that period of abuse. real steel all the way
