I saw a new one the other day at a gun shop. It was marked $950. The best he could do was $900. I knew there would be taxes and thought that is high. Was I right or wrong? I missed out on a used one at a gun show a few years back. Still kicking my own hinney for not buying it!

You missed out bro. I would have bought it at full retail. They're well made and handy little rifles. Go and get it! :)

dam it, so you're saying I should be kicking my own hiney once again!:( It's over 2 hrs away one way! Got a buddy coming for a visit, maybe he can pick it up, but it would be just my luck, it may be sold by then!

Get it already man .... its a great rifle! I'm picking same one up in about a month.

Jeeesh, bewt'in Bradley's awff the poorch, can't fly in aeroplains,
now yer kick'n yer own hy-knee.

Wunce her schniffer is schniff'in good cents, best to bite on the ackshun.

Will they shoot well with surplus ammo or will it harm them? I don't mind putting surplus through my SKS but on a thou dollar gun?

I have used Czech surplus in mine and was getting around 2 inch groups at 100 yards. Groups with LCW where larger, Barnual groups better than the Czech. The only problem I had with steel cased ammo was the Norc noncorrosive, I had cases splitting on me. Best ammo thus far was PRVI soft point. Although I have some Hornady SST I haven't tried yet.

Clean up is a breeze compared to an SKS if you shoot corrosive.

From CZ website...

"Built to CIP specifications, our 7.62Ă—39 chambers are ideal for shooting steel-cased surplus ammo. Designed to shoot .311 bullets, some American brass ammo may not perform as well as the imported steel-cased variety because of SAAMI brass dimensions and varying bullet diameters."

This rifle was designed to shoot surplus ammo.

I think I paid $1200 for my .223, but I was willing to spend a bit extra for the full length wood. Now if CZ offered the 7.62X39 with the full length stock I might need one as a companion piece, then I could do a custom 6-223 to complete the brace.

Thanks Boomer, it certainly appears that way.

I know of a guy who attempted to make it out of .223 CZ lefty rifle.
It certainly was not cost effective, but IIRC he succeeded.

FWIW, I've had both break action (Baikal), as well as a bolt action (CZ 527) rifles for the 7.62x39, and both suffered the same hard-extraction problems with various milsurp ammo. Not unusably so, but notably annoying. I suppose you could load your own, but it seems counter-intuitive to load 7.62x39 and shoot it out of a $1000 rifle that gets hung up quite a bit. My 527 in .204 runs smooth and doesn't cost much more to feed than the x39 527 did, once you get a good stash of 1F brass tucked away. A .223 527 would likely be even cheaper to feed. I did my part to experiment with x39, and if I leaned anything, it that it's best suited for an SKS/AK, IMO.

so, you're saying I should quit kicking my own hinney, forget about buying a $1000. rifle and shooting cheap ammo with it? It's what I was thinking about doing! You may have just saved me from some grief that I don't need! The kicking is a big relief and the doe in my pocket feels good! Thank you kindly!

i had one of these and licked out on some sako Berdan primed x 39 ammo a few years ago, plus I had some Win brass to reload with. So mostly shot reloads with the 125 gr bullet and reloader 7 powder. My only problem wit this rifle is it seemed very loud to me? Still have a few boxes of the sako ammo if anyone is interested..FS

If you want less expensive bolt rifle to go with cheap surplus ammo, perhaps you could also consider Zastava carbine.
Corwin Arms has a very good deal on those.

thanks, will check that out! Are they decent quality and accurate? An accurate rifle is a must for me, or I lose interest in a hurry!

Yes, they are.

Little less polished and pretty, but an accurate and reliable rifle.

I don't see them listed but call Martin to see if he has any left.
He just might, that's how I got mine.

last I saw him post was he sold out and was not bringing anymore in because of retailers sourcing the ones from the USA for cheaper and he could not compete
