Trapping Rabbits in Town?

As much as I detest cats crapping and pissing all over my yard I certainly don't want to find Fluffy dead in a snare. Live trap only. Then you can dispose of however you wish.
 
Anyone ever hear a ''Rabbit in Distress '' call?
I wouldnt be stringing up any snares in my back yard in the urban environment.
A Snoopy Neighbor will have you pegged in no time flat.
Live Trap would be a good start.
Alfalfa pellets might work (as has been suggested) try and keep it on the down low cause again you never know who truly is a good neighbor.

rabbits were everywhere here last year when we moved in. I rarely see them now...... it's strange , I dunno what happened but my 2 rottweillers seemed to have gained some weight haha

ya, I've heard the death screams of bunnies....... crazy how much noise they make LOL
 
One time I read that coyote urine would keep varmints out of the garden so, OK, I thought maybe it was on the market, possibly a synthetic, and I actually asked around for it in the larger garden places. I can't actually swear the sale people backed away from me but they didn't try to hug me either. Oh, and nobody was carrying it. But if you know anybody with coyotes.....
 
My beagle does his numerous daily patrols of the yard and the neighbourhood rabbit aka: Stew, stays clear of our yard...came in once and Buster Thee Beagle was on him like fuzz on a peach but Stew luckily found a place to squeeze through our fence but he's never been back since!

This methodology came from a hollywood movie.

Better that you add me to your ignore list once again.
 
Between the dog and the .22 I have five in my freezer now that were busted in the garden just in the last month. In town you are pretty much limited to trying a live trap. Snares work great but you might catch someone's pet. Same goes for a conibear, I don't even know if a conibear works with rabbits. I have only used them for beavers, fisher, martin, muskrat, etc.

On the plus side the garden is doing well without the pesky rabbits around.

actually, nurseries and agriculture stores sell "wolf urine" and it is used to deter other critter from gardens ect.
A popular product and it apparently works very well if applied correctly. friends of mine with a large community vegetable garden on their property, have been using it for years by soaking cotton balls and placing them strategically around the property.
don't know if it works so well for rodents or bunnies but it certainly changed the deer behavior.

When I was in Stoney Creek the neighborhood kids like to use sling shots. I wouldn’t use traps in a built up neighbourhood but wouldn’t hesitate in a rural area.
 
I would surround your garden with chicken wire. It only needs to be 2' high and will keep them out as long as they cant get under it. You can even dig it down 6" if your worried about it. The snares are a poor idea, get the neighbors cat or little dog in there and it wont be good. Or catch a rabbit the wrong way and have it screamin in your back yard.
 
I'm pretty certain you need a trapper's licence to use killing traps of any kind, plus even with the licence you can't use a killing trap within 200m of a dwelling. Just get a cage and either drown them, gas them or use a pellet gun.
