I'm trying to figure out in my head how that even happened without being there or having any other information.......I've got my own idea's on that but don't want to just throw presumptions around.
 
After some more personal deliberation on this topic....I think they maybe should have just had the RO's put lanyards on the pistol...that way if it fell out of the holster, it would drag along beside them....as long as it was less than a 1 Metre long string, it should satisfy existing rules.

And really, if everyone put lanyards on their pistols, if the lanyard was only so long that the handgun didn't touch the ground when dropped....can it then be considered a DQ if the firearm doesn't touch the ground...

How do you prevent the muzzle from pointing up range if its dangling from a lanyard?

I'm thinking a 2 point sling would be more effective.
 
I don't know.....a 2 point sling AND a holster seems like over kill to me....as long as the firearm doesn't touch the ground when dropped, who really cares which way it is pointed...it's not like it can just magically Go Off without a finger touching the trigger

Forgot we're talking about RO's and getting +5'd or -10'd (no shoot)

Lanyard is fine then.

You might be onto something here.

Possibly this lanyard might be acceptable, as it's not "too military" in it's appearance.

Excellent. Not military, and rainbow coloured for political correctness and inclusiveness of our LGBT friends and family. All you need is an official NROI/IPSC logo, and sell them for $39.95, don't forget to add a rule that ONLY the approved NROI/IPSC sling is approved, or get bumped to Open division.
 
Nice way to speed up matches with embedded RO's and scorekeepers in squads.

Two or more people doing separate holster and unholster to safety table for each stage.

Also requires Safe Area for *each* stage.

I'll blame this on the trend to "speed only" holsters...
 
If I remember right the gun that fell out of the RO's holster was not a race holster. I know if had to run with my gun holstered it would jump right out of the holster, I don't keep it very tight, no keep to.
This rule is just another example of non-shooters making rules though.
 
I am not an IPSC shooter yet. I have no issue with the RO's wearing pistols. I always thought that they were armed because they were competing at some other time during the match. I like the idea of the RO having their pistol on them rather than hiding it in the car where it might get stolen. It just seems logical to me. Am I totally off base here?

No, that's exactly why they're carrying a gun. So they can compete in the match too, while someone else plays RO.

You generally won't see this at very high-level matches. But certainly at club-level fun matches you will.

I think you've got it backwards. Every full-on race holster that I know of has a very secure lock for when you're not shooting. If you have a retention device on a normal holster you have to use it when you draw. Some people have the tension screws set very loose.

Doesn't every bay at every range have a safe area? Isn't that the point?
