Need a New Bolt Rifle

I know you dont want to beat the sako ejection issue to death, but i spent 20 minutes fixing mine and couldn't be happier -- i simply placed a tiny 2mm spacer ( a piece of narrow gauge electrical wiring) into the extractor spring hole and then put the spring in on top of that -- voila -- prob fixed.
My gun was used when i bought it-- an 85 Bavarian in 7mmRM. The rifle was beautiful and the owner got rid of it because of this ejection issue into his nice scope. The retail on a new one was 2400 -- this one, with 6 boxes of cartridges down the pipe i picked up for 1400. Its one of my favorite guns. Its a really great bolt gun, and the set trigger is a dream at the range.

Steyr, lol. Try to find the bottom (plastic) metal for the M and L series rifles, which basically ALL broke, or a replacement "plastic" stock for the professional series, which also frequently broke.

I'm not familiar with the problem or issues you mention, but I did see the Steyr Pro hunter for sale in a store in Smithers b.c. (outdoor essentials) the other weekend for $1500, it is SS and within the OP's budget, I may have to sell a few rifle to support the purchase of one. I really like their bolt and bolt handle.

Did Clay give you the 18-20 week delivery time. I ordered one last June and had it in just over 3 weeks. I'm sure it's not one they had in stock. LH stainless 325wsm with walnut.

Maybe take a look at the Tikka T3 CTR. The reviews I have read have been very positive and its about a $1000 bucks and use the rest to get some good glass and ammo.

Neil I got the time frame from Montana. Would love to get one earlier but it doesn't look likely.

Have you considered an A7? No slouch of a rifle, and does not appear to have the ejection issues of the 85. Saves you cash for glass.

I've got an 85 finnlight in 308. It does have the ejection issue. I put a gre-tan ejector spring in it and it didn't help much. I'm running a leupold mark 4 3-9x36 TMR in low rings. It would eject empties, but not with authority. It would always hit the windage turret. The rifle is a laser so all I did was rotate the scope in the rings 90 degrees. My windage is now my elevation and now it flings brass like it should.

Easy fix.

I really like my "long-action" Sako 85 Bavar Stutzen in 6.5 x 55. Never had any ejection issues of any kind. There is normally a Swarovski 1.5-6x on it. Great single-set trigger, very accurate even with discount brand ammo. Stock was slimmed down a bit to make it handier.

Buddy of mine just got Bavarian in 270WSM wit X low rings and extended bases.
30mm tube on scope and whatsoever no ejection issues.
Looks like it is either only long action or just random bad luck in what you get.

Another buddy three year back got Ruger MK II in 25-06 and got rid off with hardly solved sear and firing pin issues.
Frustrating like crazy especially for handloader. It is just what you end up with...
