Lion skull beside black bear

Only that carnivores are closely related, just as we are with our fellow primates. The ancestors of the lion and the bear split about 42 million years ago, or said differently their last common ancestor lived 42,000,000 years ago, but lions (and cats in general) did not evolve from bears.

Bit macabre but scientifically interesting, here's a pic of a baboon's hand I took in Zim, they diverged from us a lot more recently than cats and bears ancestor's did from each other.

I can't believe that people prefer to believe in creationism over evolution. All one has to so is to look at this baboon's hand to realize that we evolved and were not created.

Not to turn this into some religious rant or anything but I certainly agree with you. Its hard to believe with all the science and information so readily available that people still grasp onto old stories passed down by people who couldn't read or write, herded goats and clung to all things magical.

If people only started to investigate on their own, and discover the truth starting with the Smithsonian Human evolution timeline, I think the world could move along into many positive things.

Hopefully magic, religion and mysticism will fall by the wayside as humans gather knowledge.

Deuce is right, not the place for a creationism-evolution debate, fortunately hunting transcends all that and gives us all common ground.

Thanks Thomas it's interesting, another earlier posted it must be a tiny black bear skull, it's not and from a mature bear that would be BC typical for an old boar. 25" doesn't sound a lot bigger than 19" but the size difference being a square measurement is enormous, for instance 24" puts you into the Boone & Crockett all time list for Grizzlies, a full inch shy of the Lion. Considering the biggest black bear ever taken is currently 23 9/16" I believe, the lion would still look huge even compared the the biggest black bear. Takes a hell of a Grizzly to even come close.

Cool pics thanks ardent

Here is one I got a while back. You have no idea the size until it's dead and you have to move him.

That's a bit freaky. I admit, I didn't spend much time looking at the hands. The teeth and their propensity for violence impressed me more. That split schnoz was an old wound on mine. The other one was my brother's. I wasn't going to shoot one until I saw my brother's on the ground. Now I want to take my 25-06 over there for a week to go on a baboon safari.

There is always a certain part of an animal is similar to a human's. If you look at bears paws, they are similar to your feet. So which one will be the true ancestor? Baboons or bears? Isn't it self contradictory?
If you keep your simple style of scientific reasoning, you will be confused as to which animals are the ancestors of humans.
