If you are patient, the old gen xcr rifles go for under 1800 bucks, and they are still good rifles. If I am not mistaken you can change the buffer system to the new one from the latest gen xcr as well.

You can, but you need to change the bolt and carrier out as well.

My vote is MR1. Ultra reliable, eats all ammo, uses AR mags, 2 moa for the most part.

As for the humorous paranoia going down vis-a-vis the NDP monster coming, chill out a little. This was not part of the OP's question.

type 97?? no one owns any some guy came by and bought them all . He might of been from the yukon had a truck and wads of money. Have you thought of the csa sa 58 in 223????

I thought of the CSA, but a used CSA 58 is more expensive than a T97. I saw one in EE for $1100.00 and if you add the AR magwell adapter it's a lot more.
A SU16 is a nice choice, but I hate polymer.

Right now I'm trying to sell my NEA and get something NR so I'm not limited to a range without adding too much.
If that doesn't happen I'll keep the NEA and save for a MR1.

A mass confiscation like you hint at with NR firearms going prohibited would also see one of the largest class action lawsuits ever if no compensation was offered.

LOL no it won't... The NDP would go all hipster and crowdfund their legal bills to the point where the average fighting gun owner can't fight it anymore.. welcome to 2015 ;)

Even one on topic like the T97... If they wanted all of them.. Which I've heard number 10,000+ now.. At an average of $1000 thats 10 million $ for one gun type.

Woah, where do you get those numbers from?

let's say there is 2 million gun owners and they try a mass confiscation of all firrearms and every gun owner only puts in $100 to the lawsuit. That is a drop in the bucket and gives the law firm representing us two hundred million dollars to work with. I stand to lose a lot more and so do many others so giving thousands to the cause would be worth it.

guys we really need to win this election!
i dont know what to do more than giving more money at this point, but soon i'll be at the maximum allowed.

maximum allowed? Gov's limits or the wife's limits? I'm about capping off at the second one myself.

That is a good question though. What else can we do? Sending letters? That gets old and I think it really only helps when we coordinate our efforts. Volunteer and knock on doors, maybe? Not for me though, who has the time. Usually, guys with the time, don't have the money; and guys with the money, just don't have the time.

Good question though. What else can we do, and how do we coordinate our efforts for max effect?

we're allowed 1500$ max right?
im at 700 now.

can I make contributions in my wife's name?

I would want to put an effort in a riding where the race is close, in Burnaby forget it, its all socialist millionaires that managed to steal millions from their homeland communist government and flee to canada. Why would they want anything aside from a socialist government if it worked out so well for them before?

Honestly though guys I will lose a whole lot more than guns if the NDP comes in.
Will lose my job because we wont be competitive costs wise due to minimum salary hikes and union demands.
Wont be able to find a job for a while because Im in management not union.
Will lose my house because interest rates will quadruple due to Canada borrowing money like a teenager to pay social programs.
Will probably lose my marriage because of that.
So this is pretty damn serious.

Guns ok its important yes, I dont like being shafted, but my job, my house, my marriage, thats affecting the foundations of my life. What can you do when someone like Mulcair puts all of that in jeopardy, and why cant everyone else in the fraser valley see that?

CSA 58 new is $1075. I think the gun you were looking at either came with lots of accessories or was seriously overpriced.

^x2 on all points and if the budget is under $1,500 then a used AR180B (possibly as the first choice if you don't mind used & no warranty).

I don't have a recommendation for a decent NR black'ish semi. rifle in .223 that takes AR mag.'s for a $1,000, because IMO one doesn't exist (at this time).

Cheers D

I'm (honestly) curious, but how many times have class action lawsuits either changed the law, or prevented a law from being passed, in Canada?

the class action would be for compensation, that does not change a law, however the government may not have the means to pay therefore they will have to wait till they are able to pay before they can confiscate.

What if "no compensation" was written into law?

im not sure that would rest easy with canadians, otherwise other leisure things could also be made prohibited and confiscated without compensation:
swimming pools
leisure boats, jet skis et al
motorcycles
scooters
cars with more than 200hp
high fat foods
cigarettes
down hill skis

all of these pose a higher public safety hazard and health hazards and have incurred more negligent deaths per year than firearms
