Trying to find a 40x Rimfire __HAPPY UPDATE

Hello,

Along with my search for hens teeth, I am smitten with the 40x rimfires.... I know its a tough go, but I have been searching my resources trying to find one, that I preferably will not need to import from the US, I am serious about buying a 40x in reasonable shape in Canada and was hoping someone here could give me a lead to follow up on. I am not really interested in the aftermarket actions that are based off the 40x, but am hoping to find an original Remington...even if it was just the action....

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I,ve never seen one FS myself .In the end I would probably just buy a 1710 Anny at least there easy too find.Anyone that has one knows what they have.Good luck on your search

As you're probably aware, there is a far greater chance of finding one is in the US. Irunguns just delivered to me a USMC Property 40X. The wait was well worth it !
The very nice thing about the 40X is that all Rem 700 aftermarket stuff works on them too !

if you weren't hoarding close to 40 of them now there would be a few more on the Canadian market, come on now man you can only shoot one at a time so throw a couple up in the EE
 
OP you have a lot of competition as there are many of us Rimfire shooters scouring the earth for the same thing as you are. I called Remmington Custom to order a few, a week after they quit making them.

I know it's going to be tough, but I will eventually get one.....even if I have to break into JayCarver's house. (That is a joke.....mostly lol) I was hoping to not have to go through the hassle of importing, but it's worth it to me in the end, was hoping to get lucky before working hard.

I know for the money there are as good or better choices like a custom or an 1712 etc.... But they do not appeal to me at all, I have a Rimfire that is already more accurate than I am, it's a Savage Mk 11 in a tacticool stock and it shoot tiny little groups. I just love the 40x. Plain and simple.

I will just have to keep looking.
 
A repeater 40X will be a sporter as the Rangemasters were all single shot whether 40X or 40XB. Even a B or C grade rifle will be at least $4000 to start and an F grade will likely run $6000+.
A decent Rangemaster is still under $2000 even for a really decent copy. You may not want to show your hand as to willingness to pay but these rifles in Canada are becoming like many other collectable firearms in that you have to ante up if your motivation to own one is high.

If you are looking for a clean 40x sporter repeater, be prepared to spend $5000 or more. Prices have gone up dramatically, and the owners of these rifles usually know the current value.
 
Got this one from a fellow at range

It had Redfield International sights which I sold them as my eyes are not great anymore,put on old B&L 24x. this gun has shot some 5 shot groups at 50 y with Midas + under .100 and couple groups under 1/2" at 100y.
It shoots much better after putting in a Robertson benchrest stock bedded and added a Jewel at 2oz.
I have not seen any other 40x for sale there rare

HEY! STAY AWAY FROM MY 40X!!! LOL

But to be serious just keep looking, I'm a very patient person, I spent about 3 years with a 40x on my wish list before I found mine and actually came by it by accident on the EE, it was listed with a bunch of milsurps as "old rem target rifle, crappy scope and unsafe trigger, very dirty". The pics were bad but I could tell it was a 40x and the scope looked to be a unertl 20x, the price was right so I snatched it up.

Turned out that after A LOT of scrubbing there was a nice 1960's 40x under all the crud, needed a few missing parts but nothing that I couldn't hunt down. The Unertl 20x was in nice shape and the "unsafe trigger" was a canjar that was just set really low (2oz) and worked fine.

So keep looking and you will find one, put up a WTB ad and like posted above there's a few in the states so thats a option also.

I’ve seen the odd 40x come up on EE but have yet to see a Sporter for sale. I picked up this 40-XB KS quite a few years back from the EE. I had been looking for years and just about gave up.

I bought my 40x Sporter many years ago off the Steel Chickens Marketplace. About your only hope to pick one up these days is to bite the bullet and pay a premium to get one from one of the US gun auction sites.

I have a HB 40X, and have absolutely zero inclination to sell it.

I bought it from Jefferson on here several years ago, it is on the 700 action.

It is stupid accurate. 50M groups are almost invariably in the .1's, if I do my part and the wind stays away.

Very close is my M37 Remington, but it was a bit of a chore mounting a modern scope on it without doing anything to devalue it.

Of course, my Williams-prepped Suhl 150 is my ultimate 22, [also never for sale]

Love those hard to find rimfires. I would buy a 40x repeater if I could find one to buy without taking out a 2nd mortgage, lol.
