I have tried using the search function we all know how that goes. I am in the market for my first AR 15 rifle. I had previously been thinking of buying something in the $800 range such as a s&w m&p 15 sport or a basic dpms. However after drooling over the daniel defense for a while I find myself in need of some advice. This is not going to be a rifle that will see much use. I basically want it just to join the club and add another owner to the country. However I would never be happy with it if I didn't feel it was good quality. So I have been looking at the Dd m4v5 a bit and love the design. I have also recently handled a diemaco 20" at my lgs and heard great things about it such as match grade barrel and great accuracy. I am quite mechanically inclined and not in the least bit afraid to customise things and make them my own however the DD looks just like I would want it to. Am I going to see much of a difference in accuracy out of these two rifles? Is there something else I should look into? Most of my bolt guns are now customs and I take my reloading and accuracy quests very seriously so it has to perform or I will not be satisfied. Like I said it isn't something that will get a whole lot of use but I would like to shoot from the bench and be able to ring gongs and break clay pidgeons at 300m with decent consistancy.

I am looking for whatever advice that you can give me to help me get into a quality ar that will hold its value and last several lifetimes and have half a chance at the MOA challenge perhaps.

I have a DDM4V1 and DDM4V7 and love em both.
Cant go wrong with them however it comes down to the money you are willing to spend.

This is correct...

IMHO DD or Colt is the best balance of quality for $.

Most US made ARS are all pretty good. If the DD is too much you can look for CORE or S and W... InternationalShootingSupplies has a used CORE for $729. Wicked deal! Lifetime warranty... I was very happy with mine before I upgraded.

2nd for Core a really decent rifle, with life time warranty for the little bit of extra money over the "value" AR's

You can't go wrong with DD or Colt Canada, I also own both. Either one makes a fine choice if it's a one and only AR. Both are inherently very accurate, and both have hammer forged 1:7 twist barrels. The DD comes from the factory free floated, which is advantageous. The Colt Canada will likely have greater collector value over time. But either one will ring gongs at 300m without issue, and they're milspec quality that will last.

I'd go with DD... The CC barrel won't be any more accurate, they're both cold hammer forged (correct me if I'm wrong) the DD can be had on the EE from 1300-1500 with low round count, the DD comes with a quad rail, and the DD is backed by wolverine supplies... So even though it's an American company, you're still taken care of in case of mishap.

I have also now got my eye on the colt le6920 m4 magpul edition. If an issue ever came up with one what is the warantee process from Canada? While I really like free floating handguards I don't see a practical useage for rails down every inch of the forearm and I have found them to be quite uncomfortable to grab onto in my limited experience.

Then check out the Daniel Defense M4V7. Minimal rails. Just what you need wherever you need it. If you buy new from wolverine you have no worries about warranty. If you buy used off the EE and its a functioning Daniel Defense you'll likely never need warranty. The great thing about AR's is there's tons of parts. They all interchange and thanks to YouTube anybody can be a gunsmith. Lol

Don't get me wrong Colt is a very good choice as well.

I've had a major feeding issue with an American Colt.. The feed ramps looked like garbage and the rifle came poorly finished. I'd never get another one. If there's an issue you need to export it back into the states and wait for them to fix it and import it back. Stick with DD.

As for the rails hurting your hands, wear gloves. You don't save that much weight going from quad rail to keymod. I'd get whatever is cheaper/available on the EE. Rail panels also help, but add weight. Daniel defends rails help a surprising amount as well, and don't add much weight.

I would have to say that pretty much all of the advice on here so far has been bang on. Colt Canada, Daniel Defense, Stag, CORE and even Colt USA all make very good rifles. If you're looking for a rifle that'll have a very long barrel life, Colt Canada and Daniel Defense make the better pipes.

Don't be scared away by any comments about Core not being "Mil-Spec" either. Mil-Spec is simply how you can keep track of what will fit with what when it comes to rifle parts interchange. Core makes a good product, even if it may not fit on some other rifles.

If you don't dig the quad rails on a rifle, you can always get after market fore ends that are a lot more streamlined and you can mount rail sections where you feel you'll need 'em.

Don't forget to grab some (a lot) extra magazines too as they only hold 5/10 rounds here in the great white north.

Here's the DD m4v7. You can put those short piece of rails anywhere you want on the handguard.

I re read you original post and I see you said you shoot for accuracy. Now the m4v5 will ring the gong all day at 300m maybe your looking for something more along the lines of the DD mk12. It has an 18" barrel. You could do something like this

Not mine. Wish it was

does the ddm4v7 come in 223? I only see it listed in 6.8.

Very nice rifles fellas. thank you all for the great advice. I am learning a ton.
