Shorten PAL Approval Times

Scanning the picture

The whole scanning the picture after references seems odd to me. You'd think they'd enter/digatize everything in the application envelope as the first stage. Either way with one day between our references calling in, its an Ontario vs Alberta CFO approval race. I think it'll clear your CFO's desk faster!

When I called in last week, they said they would scan my picture last week and then have my references call the next week (I got my reference to call in today).

Maybe they wanted me to wait a little longer because it had only been 30 days. Today it has been 37.

Update time for me too..

Mailed June 22 via registered mail from BC

Received June 26 in Miramichi

Appeared in the system (and credit card charged) on July 16 (20 days after receipt)

Called on July 28 to make sure that my application was not missing anything and was told that I could have a reference call in (RPAL) without even having to ask! I guess I lucked out with who I spoke with.

Approved as of August 5th. Woo!

Ontario, RPAL(New Application)

Completed PAL and RPAL course on May 30/31.
Received stamped report cards on June 22.
Sent off my application on June 24. (Registered mail)
Received and signed by someone at Miramichi on June 30.

Application showed up online on July 21
Called on July 29, they said they were scanning my picture and call next week.
Called on Aug 5, asked for one reference to call in, did after an hour.

Checked online Aug 6, license is issued.

So from Date received in Miramichi to issued, 38 days. Which is pretty good.

Here is when I called them:
July 13. Told to call back in 10-14 days, application was not online.
July 22. Application was online, but I was told there was a backlog and to call back at the end of August. OKAY
July 29. I was told they are currently Scanning my picture and to call back in a week.
Aug 5. They were ready for any one of my references. And got them to call after an hour.
So basically I called them once every week, two weeks after they received my application.

Now to go up to Cabelas next week :d

Having read through dozens of pages in this thread in an attempt to gauge the duration of my own application, I was pleased to find that mine was successfully processed about as quickly as one could hope. Happy Monday!

RPAL application received at CFC: 6 July
Application showed up online: 23 July (+17 days)
Legislated waiting period over: 4 August (+28 days)
Phoned into CFC and the nice lady invited my reference to phone-in, which happened about 20 minutes later: 7 August (+32 days)
Checked at 9am this morning and license was approved: 10 August (+35 days)

I took the old CFSC back in 1998 when it taught long gun and handgun safety together, so I expected at least a raised eyebrow. :)

Here is my final timeline for those following along.

CFSC course completed: June 14
CRFSC challanged: June 15
Application sent: June 19
Application Received: June 25 (according to the online status check)
Stamped CRFSC & CFSC Received: First week and a half of July (was away)
Application Online: July 14
Faxed Stamped CRFSC & CFSC: July 15
Reference Interviewed: July 29
RPAL Issued: July 31
Received in the mail: Aug 11

53 Days from application in the mail to card in hand.
45 Days from application received to card in hand.
36 Days from application received to issued.

I called nearly every Wednesday after the application appeared online, almost never had to wait on hold and always had someone pleasant on the other end off the line.

I really need to call in. Going to do that in the morning.

Mine was received June 30th but still hasn't been issued. I am only 3 days away from the 45 day mark.

Droitwich is out of Waterloo. I am out of Cambridge (which is about 20 minutes away, for those of you who do not know). My application was received by RCMP before Droit but my license still hasn't been issued.

I will post up the results of my phone call tomorrow. Hopefully they tell me I can have a reference call in.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I am on day 76. It's a very slow process.

When I phoned in, I was told that they would contact a reference at their convenience, or 'if I wanted to speed up the process', I could get one to phone-in. Yes, ma'am! When it comes to the PAL application, it seems the squeaky wheel gets the grease: as others have done, keep on them a few times per week. That was my plan if mine dragged out. However, in spite of your best efforts, if you find your application is in CFP purgatory there may not be much you can do but light a candle. ;)

Finally, issued today. total wait 111 days from file received on Mar 23rd.

I also received my RPAL finally!
Application received in Mirimichi Feb 23, hounded them every couple weeks up until first week of July, then gave up trying as I was getting nowhere.
License showed up in my mail box this past Monday Aug 10

Droit, thanks for your feedback.

I ended up calling them this morning and was told the same thing "If you want to speed up the process, have a reference call in". Whelp, I did exactly that this morning and now this is what it says for me online:

I have a similar story.. mailed in.. waited until the 45th day - called and said they were ready for references, and to have one of my references call in. I asked about this - and should I have my wife and other reference call, and they said no - they will call them if they feel the need to.

My reference called, and I checked online an hour later - and it showed Approved and Issued, and now I'm waiting to get it in the mail.

I applied for PAL/RPAL - and they haven't interviewed me, or my wife.. I'm fine with that.. but find it odd that one reference calls in and voila - here's your license - when others in this thread have waited forever.
