220 Lapuas .308

I will be in contact Jerry, but I will most probably bring my press and chrono out to the range Saturday like I generally do, and just work up a load with N150.
Thought I would check if someone had some good "go to' stuff already.

Some chrono results from last night.

Lapua 185 GB432 Factory 2583fps

Lapua 220 Scenar L
38g VV N150 - 2202fps
39g VV N150 - 2291fps
40g VV N150 - 2330fps

42g VV N550 - 2359fps
43g VV N550 - 2392fps

Only fired 2 rounds of each, with no signs of over pressure. Accuracy potential remains very good.
Wondering about VV N160?

Ron, I tried N160, 47gr was only giving me around 2330fps, too slow, 47gr of H4350 was at around 2530fps. Only 10°C outside that day, probably would be a bit faster at 25-30°C. 30" barrel.
2.98" COAL(.020" jump) no pressure signs in my rifle. This was with Palma brass and CCI450's. I stopped at 47gr cause I couldn't seem to get more in there, short of throating it another .100" longer.
I didn't try N150, I assumed it would be a bit fast for these but perhaps it would do fine.

What's your COAL when it touches the rifling?

If I have time over the winter I plan to build a 300WM to shoot the 220L's with N170.

And of course to anyone else reading this, these are not factory rifles nor normal loads for a 308, this is for FTR and is experimental, play at own risk.

OAL is at 3.119 I sent a sample round to John with the barrel blank. Better to chamber the barrel to the round, than try to make the round fit later.

What is your ideal potential velocity?

first the rifle is built for the 215gr hybrid with reamer to my custom spec
barnard S action HV bartlein barrel finished@31''1/2
oal to the ogive is 2.450'' with a .010'' jump

with N150 I have 2550fps
after the last test I have a better accuracy and speed with IMR4451 .356MOA@ 2670fps and I stil have to play with the jump

I also have tested the Alliant RL-17 and have a max load @2850fps but better accuracy node around 2700fps but not as good as the IMR4451

For those casually wandering by, F-class rules don't permit use of muzzle brakes.

This is likely in deference to the other competitors close by on the firing line shooting at the same time.

Thanks for sharing. What was the drop at 1000yds from 100yd zero?
