Very Nice 7.62x51 Surplus....Boxer Or Berdan, Cases or Battle Packs

Will just make sure i dont have to shoot any other make of 7.62X51 surplus for the rest of my shooting day...
You sure get spoiled with that stuff, i gave my last case of Chinese copperwash surplus to my grandkids for their Socom's... JP.

Not entirely true.
Boxer is easy to reload and components are easy to come by, berdan not so much.

TO KEEP IT SIMPLE
I am very aware of its reloadability. Was just putting it in simple terms. You can do just about anything if you put your mind and wallet to it ;)

just by looking at the cases and the markings, It would have been rather easy for any of the other retailers to separate the two types. Unfortunate for those that bought already
Seems kinda ridiculous doesn't it? Not surprised.

Then it might not be range friendly, or barrel friendly then.

Range could be a concern ( certain range go for the magnet test) but no danger for the barrel those are a lot harder than the light alliage use in those bullet, i dont really worry about it... JP.

My concern is they are hotter than Hell. I have read posts on other forums about this ammo being rather hot.
Has anyone ran any over a Chrono? Or is there a velocity listed on the box?

They dont like match chamber, tried it in my Nemesis/ SSG3000 / Rem R-5, all 3 have hard extraction, but i tried it in my TRG-22 ( milspec chamber) and they shot well, i supposed the are on the hot side just based on this little test... JP.

No vel. listed on the box. Didn't go through a Chrono but the '74 berdan primed Hirt felt very smooth when compared to my factory Norma match 168gr ammo @ 2550ft/s shot with the same rifle. Heard that the boxer primed Hirt was supposedly very hot tho.

Accuracy wise, the Hirt is also pretty good for surplus with an average of 1.5 MOA @ 200y.

JP, you can run pretty hot ammo in match chamber rifles. The specs of the ammo makes it "sticky" not the load.

Match chambers (or they are to tight for Milspec ) can be different for sure, those rifles are no-go for the Hirt, guess trial and error is on order here but on the bright side, it made me unburied my phosphate green Sako ... JP.:)

Yes they are, a magnet will stick to the bullet, not the case, but dont let it fool you, those are almost on par with match ammo for precision...
Priceless... JP.

Actually with Hirtenberger it depends on which plant/country of origin the ammo is from. Austrian made ammo has a steel jacketed bullet.

An easier way to determine this might be: What plant/country of origin is this ammo from?
