I have loaded 320 and 325 gr to over 2200fps. Believe me when I tell you that is packing a lot of mail.

Some of these loads are for the guys who really want to get beat up!

Certainly more than I want to shoot in my eight pound walking around rifle! :)

Ted, my favorite load for the 9.3 is 59.5gr of varget pushing a 285gr prvi bullet.

And i can tell you that it is one of the most vicious loads that i have.

Now i will not try shooting 320gr in the 9.3x62

Victor.

Well the 55 gr of IMR4895 load was very accurate, and also very hard on the stock of "The Ugly 9.3" rifle.

So much so that it is getting a complete refit: Marine-Tex bedding,

and two cross bolts.

This old workhorse has done more than its share of work. After travelling thousands of miles in trucks, boats, and float planes, she deserves a decent retirement. Getting a new paint job, then it is heading to The Rock to grace a nice little 6.5X55 hunting moose, caribou, and bear. :)

I worked up loads for the 325 gr Oyrx with H-414 and N-550. With the articles's load of 62 grs of H-414 producing 2368 fps as a point of comparison, my observations were as follows . . .

H-414
62 grs - 2260 fps
63 grs - 2261 fps
64 grs - 2324 fps - pressure
Working load - 63.5 - 2293 fps

N-550
62 grs - 2240 fps
63 grs - 2267 fps
64 grs - 2324 fps

There was no pressure signs with the 64 grs of N-550, but that was as far as I went as the load was compressed. This was with fire formed .30/06 Federal brass and Remington 9.5M primers.

On a whim, I recently bought a box of Woodleigh 320 gr RN bullets for my Brno ZG47 in 9.3X62 with a 21" barrel. I used the Real Guns load of 59 gr of RL17 as a guide and reduced that load by about 5% to a starting load of 56 grs.

I initially shot 3-shot groups with 56(2027fps) 57(2067), 58(2106) and 59 grs(2146). At 59 grains there weren't any traditional signs of excess pressures. Primers were round, bolt lift still very easy. Grouping of all loads was accepable with the 58 and 59 loads going .38" and .50" respectively.

This rifle weighs 8 1/4 lbs and wears a 1" Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. This old body also wears a Pact recoil shield so all in all recoil is very manageable.

I won't be hunting with the Woodleighs this year as I've already developed a load with Varget and 286 gr Nosler Partitions that are moving out at 2400 fps and group under an inch at 100 meters.

For a 9.3x62, I picked up an 'inexpensive' Zastava from Tradex.

In preparation before it arrived, I acquired some of the required reload goodies for it which included a bunch of 285gr prvi bullets. Later, primarily at local gun shows, I gradually accumulated a selection of other bullets,
- Speer ..... 250gr
- Norma......231gr & 286gr
- Matrix......290gr
However, with the initial accuracy I obtained with the 285gr prvi bullets, I haven't even 'tried' any of the others as I'd be hard pressed to better the accuracy I'm already getting:d.

Mauser98, do you mind sharing the load for varget and 286np combo?

Mike, will you get more case capacity with a real 9.3x62 case?

So I compared 2 cases, a Winchester .30.06 fire formed to 9.3X62, but not resized, and a factory Previ 9.3X62 that had been fired but not resized. The Winchester case weighed 209.6 grs, and the Previ case weighed 201.2. The difference in capacity in grains of water was 72.7 for the Winchester and 72.9 for the Previ. Suffice to say that capacity for the factory case and the fire formed case is, for all intents and purposes, the same.

I have have used both Winchester and (some very old) Dominion 30-06 brass reformed to 9.3X62 with great results. The Domionion stuff has been reloaded and annealed so many times I have lost count, and it is still going strong.

Use Federal 30-06 exclusively in one rifle, and it takes loads as hot as Norma without a whimper. This was the stuff that split the stock on "The Ugly 9.3"
