With the risk of this exploding into a Standard vs. Production "class warfare" discussion, I thought I'd toss this up there for suggestions/comments.

I've been shooting IPSC for 15 years using a Para-Ord P16-40 Limited. In its day (before their QC and the physical factory went south), it was a great starter Standard pistol. I've modified it over the years and I've shot it a lot. It still functions well although it is showing its age and I have plenty of reloading components so I'm plenty happy with .40 S&W. I really don't have any great interest or desire to move to Production division.

So, what are my current options for a double stack .40 S&W ready Standard division pistol? I could pick up a used Para I guess. I'm not familiar enough with the current offerings from STI to pick one. To tell the truth I'm not keen on dropping $2000 or $2500 or more for a new pistol, mags, pouches, etc. but I recognize that the bill might run that high. $3000 would be an absolute top end and I'd have to be really convinced to even come close to that number. I just don't shoot nearly often enough to justify that kind of cash outlay, at least not yet.

I am extremely happy with the 1911 form and function as I've been shooting one for years. Don't even suggest a Glock as the grip angle just doesn't do it for me.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

check out cz 75 tactical sport in 40.. fits the bill too.

Long term, you will be happiest with a 2011. For Standard Division I wouldn't really suggest anything else. With all new equipment you will definitely be above your budget ceiling. You may be able to find an STI Edge on the used market. That would save you some money.

I recently got an STI Edge barely used below the 1900$ mark.
If you truly love the 1911 platform, theres classic division. I am running an STI trojan in 40SW and the investment was not that bad before i sent the gun to the smith for custom tune.

Cheapest option is to stick with Para & scoop them up used when you can. Mags are going to be hard to find, though I've heard there are some aftermarket options in the US. The CZ's are affordable but you'd be looking at all new gear (mags, holster etc..).

I'm with RElliot, look for a used Edge if you can't take the hit for a new 2011.

Thanks all for the suggestions and ideas so far. I expect I'll be sending closer to my top limit than the bottom rung but I'll get there. I could just consider it an early present to myself for my impending retirement from the army.

Someone just posted a used Edge in the EE so they are out there I see.

Just picked up a used Tanfoglio Limited Custom, and have been very impressed so far.

Switching from Revo to Standard and wanted to dip my toes in at the 1400 range with mags.

I am a little jaded, I own many STI and SV 21011 so Id say that is the way you should go LOL

If interested I have a brand new, in case, never shot other than the factory tests.

3100.00 with 2 mags. You pay shipping

Dwayne

Nothing wrong with the Para
CZ Tac Sport
Tanfo LC
STI Edge

Best part of STI is parts availability and lifetime warranty. I own the CZ TS.

Well I've decided and paid for a new STI Edge .40 from Freedom Ventures. Hard to not like dealing with Sean.

Ended up spending a bit more than I originally intended to but I can say with certainty I'll get any support I need from Sean if there are any issues at all.

Just waiting for the transfer to come through and then I'll have to reset my belt set up and get to the range.

Thanks for all the input.

Excellent.

I love my 2011 Eagle. I was going to order a DVC but decided on a Limited Custom Extreme instead. If I don't love it I'll order a DVC. The thing love more about the DVC is how the new grip fits my hand. If I was you I would try and get your hands on a gun with the DVC grip to see how it fits your hands. You may find yourself ordering one.

Congrats. I think you made the best choice and it should serve you well for years.
