I was took the dog for a walk today and noticed a good amount of this on the ground. It's fur that seems to be crapped out by something. I've been keeping an eye out on things lately as my wife stated she spotted a large circular footprint in these same woods that looked like a wolf or cougar print.

I'm doubting the cougar obviously but I'm not singling out wolf possibly coyote scat.

I'm just south of Barrie. At night you can here them howl at night quite clearly. Whatever they are.

Coyote on a pretty lean diet, which probably explains the location. Not a Cheech and Chong dog, the hair is a giveaway. Owl pellets will also include the nails and teeth of their prey and I've never seen any of that apparent size.

What would you guess it ate, does the hair colour change while it get digested?

I personally don't claim to be that good just from looking at a photo, not even on the internet. But I don't believe the hair would change colour unless perhaps it was coated with something from the animal's digestive system. The earlier statement that it was a cat is reasonable if only due to the amount of hair seen.
