One species, for the rest of your life?

I would miss deer hunting, but I think I would settle on upland. I'll still be able to do it when I'm 70, and I'm not sure I can say that about deer. The weather is generally nicer than the rifle hunt. I can walk for miles just looking at the scenery and the colours and not have to worry about how I'll get my game back to the truck. That would also let me indulge in my love for English SxS shotguns.

One of my deer hunting buddies is 86, never to old if you can find some younger gents to help you out!

Damn...what a SOMAesque question. As weird as it sounds I'd have to say pass shooting waterfowl. It's what I started off doing with my dad years ago and I have so many fond memories of spending my whole vacation out there spending day after day hiding in a fence line, bushes or behind a bale hammering away at droves of snow geese as they passed overhead. Plus the local family that runs the cafe makes a wicked "duck supper". Wake up in the morning and do it all over again. I love big game but if you want to spend the maximum number of days in the field and still put meet in the freezer every day there is no better way.

This fall is my 59th year to hunt. I cut my hunting "teeth" on muleys, and still love to hunt them.

But if I had to choose one species only, it would be Elk. Whitetails are very close, though.

I realize that my hunting days are numbered, but will continue to go as long as it is physically practical/possible. :)

Because I live in prime moose country, it has been primary table fare for many, many years. Young Bull Moose.......yummy!!

Regards, Dave.

This sounds too much like part of an election platform for non-firearm supporting parties, therefore I will not play :)
But if I did, it'd probably be small game.

Well for me it would be a mature Whitetail buck. Memories of frosty mornings back in western Quebec/eastern Ontario waiting for the sun to come up and then...crunch,crunch on the dry leaves and then there he is..frost still on his antlers and steam blowing out his nostrils from rutting all night.....man I'll never forget those moments.
Nothing beats the sound of a bugling Elk in the Rockies, but that sound in those eastern hardwoods..crunch,crunch..does it for me everytime.
Cheers

I'm with you Dave... there is nothing in the woods tastier than a two year old bull moose.

My favorite as well and classify that size as a;) 'deepfreeze bull':d.

Oh, Greg, on a side issue, came across a 'goodie' for the RSI yesterday and picked it up. A Ruger sling with the Ruger insignia monogrammed on it. Seemed fitting.

Dogleg, you cheat..........my first choice, without a doubt and by a large margin, would be elephants. I think I have posted once or twice how I just love them big grey cuddly critters........three or four dry land hippos every year would keep the adrenaline count up as well. But Angus outlawed these from the start so I was forced to choose a second.......
I would also be very happy spending the rest of my hunting days looking for a 68-70" kudu.........may not even exist but I'd sure have fun glassing bull herds and rocky hillsides in the search for one. And the weather would be outstanding every day without doubt.............

Your Kudu picture makes me feel warm and fuzzy... I could sit in the sun and glass for one of the most beautiful horned animals on the planet quite comfortably as well. Could enjoy that one forever, looking for the 70" kudu, without firing a shot.
