I'm looking at buying a 338 lapua and wondering what the best for the money is. has anyone had a model 700 in 338 on here?

Looks like the only one available now is the chassis model, though they still had the Sendero in .338.

Depending on $ you are willing to spend, there are lots of options. Better start rolling your own too.

I would think that savages new 112 magnum target will be the best value for the money. I think they are going to be around $1500.

Long range precision is what I'm after. I am starting to out grow my .308 and would like to keep pushing myself. I've been reloading for my .308 for a long time so reloading for 338 would be no problem, I'm also considering selling my .308 and getting an mrad so I can swap barrels to .308, .300, and 338 lm, only problem is I'm somewhat attached to my .308, so i guess my question is, would I be better to go all out and get an mrad, or another rifle?

Then, get a custom built on a single shot action made for the cartridge and the throat cut to seat the bullet way out to put as much powder as possible and a heavy 30+" barrel. It makes all the difference

Lots of choices if you have the money to spend. Depends also on whether you are sold on the .338 and intend to keep the gun long term? Or are unsure still. Would suck to buy a 5k plus gun then not enjoy shooting it. I tried it before I bought, loved it, and decided on a "buy once, cry once" purchase that I'll have for many years.
I bought a Barrett MRAD in .338, and it's amazing. Have shot it out to 1200 yards on man sized targets. Love the ergonomics and trigger. Also when we go to 700 yards, I just pop in my .308 barrel and same scope, LOP, etc. If that's too pricey, my friend has an Armalite AR-30 .338, and is a 1/3 the price, bare bones gun, but shoots great too.
Hard to go wrong with the more custom guns though for sure.
Never seen a Rem 700 in .338, so can't help you there.

The best money for 338 is the custom rifle. Not a factory rifle.
The custom rifle will give you more accurate at long range, fine tuned action, high-end trigger, stronger stock and right length of freebore for 300 gr.
I'm getting the Defiance Tactical action with 30" barrel with the correct twist rate for 300gr pill.

Just a thought.

I would buy the savage 110 FCP with HS Precision stock. It'll do > 90% of anything else if you do your part, at 1\3 the cost of most and you can shoot a pile of ammo, buy good optics, or get reloading equipment and components with the extra $. Then shoot it lots more, but its all pointless if you dont have a range longer than 1000 yards.

My Remington 700 XCR long range tactical .338 Lapua in an AX AICS is a good shooter, not too hard on the pocketbook

I have a 700 MLR. It's a good rifle but it's not going to be winning any competitions in it's factory form with a 24 inch barrel.

If I was serious about accuracy at 1000+M ranges I would buy a custom build.

I would also keep the 308 and add a 338 over an MRAD

All depends on your budget. I longed, and still long, for a Barrett, but my reading has led me to believe that they are NOT the most accurate option for your dollar. They are very accurate, and very tough, and damn cool (IMO) but they are not the MOST accurate for that dollar amount.

If you have 4000+ to spend, get a custom, or a timberwolf. If your budget is in the 1-2000$ range, the Savages are great. I have a 110FCP with the HS stock, and a BA (that as of tonight is for sale, but it's a lefty).

Since you already reload, you're laughing.... start gathering powder, you're gonna need lots of it!!

Id go smaller not bigger. Look into a custom that will launch high bc bullets. Id look long and hard at things like 7wsms, 243AIs, any of the plethora of 6.5 caliber offerings. Im really not sure what you mean by you have outgrown your 308? the 338 lapua seems pretty lackluster when you shoot a 243ai beside it in the identical rifle out to a mile. The recoil isnt a problem on a Lapua but the muzzle blast is hard on the nerves after a while and the cost of components is pretty insane in comparison to most other calibers. I was having the same thoughts about 5 years ago and went with a 300wm due to component costs, but if i could have done it all again it would have been a 308win based cartridge.
