Hunting with restricted rifle?

Because when the provisions of C-68 came into force, an FAC holder did not need to take the course in order to get a PAL, it was a straight transition from the authorization to the license. Perhaps he never even re-registered his rifle after the change, doesn't have an ATT, doesn't belong to a range, and hasn't kept up on how the Firearms Act affects him.

Not relevant as the inability to hunt with a restricted in Canada predates the FAC and C-68

That's true, but not all that long ago the AR-15, among others, was properly viewed as just another rifle. It is possible that the OP never clued in to what that green paper was really all about, the rifle has been a safe queen for 25 years, and he is only now asking the question. He'll have to get a Mini-14 if he wants to hunt with a semi-auto quasi military looking .223.

I guess you could try for a Wilderness Carry permit.

Grizz

ah but the CFO bones you there as it will specify 'for protection only' and you are not permitted to discharge it unless your protecting you life.

I guess them deer can be dangerous

now there is also a dispatch pistols for trappers (in Alberta) but the CFO has not figured out how to word the ATT and wilderness carry permist to allow for you to carry a small caliber handgun for killing trapped critters, and the old guys don't really care and are packing anyways. The normal method is beat the critter to death with a stick, so the CFO think you don't need to be more humane then that.

These guys made it work.

My middle son was in Cambodia and visiting Phnom Penh about ten years ago and decided to go to a range in order to shoot an AK47, anyway the deal was you got to shoot live chickens and they would barbecue them afterwards. They also had a deal where you could shoot a water buffalo with an RPG, however he declined that offer!

Or as I do... a .30 U.S. carbine with pinned 5/15 rnd original mag and an 18 5/8" barrel.

Many forget or never knew that we indeed did have handgun hunting in Canada, but thanks to P.E.T., that all came to pass .... There is always someone pushing to get it re-instated but it goes in circles with the Feds saying no sense allowing ATT's for it as the hunting regs forbid handgun hunting and the Province saying no sense changing the regs as the feds won't issue the ATT. Now with the passing of the common sense firearms act and how ATT's are handled as a condition of the RPAL (or how ever that is worded) .. maybe time to start pushing again?

It is really insane somehow there viewed as two different machines. Should be able to use a five round mag and the right caliber for the rules. But then again they wouldn't want us to have a legitimate use for a scary black rifle. Why don't you get a modern hunter !

Ya, ontario regs state something along the lines of no hunting with a prohibited or restricted firearm. So if the restricted class ended tomorrow. Then Sunday I could hunt with an AR.

Think of all the children it has saved

Lucky you. I still had to challenge the test.

what if you asked for a unicorn hunting condition attached to your wilderness carry permit? Ask the cfo and because of the danger involved hunting unicorns, and add that you require a restricted rifle to ethically hunt one with full 30 round mags,as they travel in herds of 23 and attack threats in large groups, maybe then you can hunt restricted maybe?
