There's totally nothing wrong with a safety. If you remember to use it, and don't rely on that safety excessively (because if you get to relying on it totally, and forget the more important issues about muzzle and trigger, you're set up for trouble).
My personal experience is that there is no scenario under which I ever use the safety, and it tended to get in my way when I was racking the slide when I first started out but YMMV.
Once again, I re-iterate my endorsement for the 92FS. I would not recommend it for a woman unless she has larger than average hands and is fairly strong (because of the 16 lb DA trigger pull).
