.45 in something other than 1911

This has all been great guys,

Clear up a few things, medium sized hands, i.e. I can handle a slightly larger frame, but i found P762 was too big. I reload 45s already, and a stock pile of supplies so cost per round aint a huge factor.

I own a 1911, and i just think plastic is fantastic. I do understand that 45s like a heavier frame though.

And for budget, cheaper is better (im taking something used, but well cared for), Under $600, preferably under $500. Then i can sell the 1911 cover part of it and only be out 300ish.

The M&p45s have my eye, just wondering on the difference in grip size between that and an m&p9?

I have a 1911 (STI trojan) and a M&P 45.

I definitely find I have trouble holding on to the M&P 45 in terms of repeatable grip. The surface is just too slippery (and I don't want to stipple it). I suppose I just need to shoot it more and get used to it.

The M&P 45 frame is bigger than the M&P 9 (which I can hold onto easily).

Order these Talon Grips - they ship to Canada and shipping is really cheap >>> $0.99 USPS 1st Class

I shoot my M&P45 with the small backstrap. It feels similar to the M&P9 with the medium.

Even though I am over 6 foot, my hands are not overly large (cue the small hand jokes) With my M&P45 I started with the small grip and was very comfortable with it. I have put the medium grip on it for when I have friends shoot it and of course it feels different but I can still be effective with it. I also shoot an Inglis Hipower with good results.

^ This. Not exactly budget and not perhaps for anyone that doesn't like larger grips but metal frame and it's a Sig. In .45.

Its not cheap I will give you that, I was able to pick one up recently at a reasonable price on the EE. However instead of "budget" perhaps a dollar value could be listed. The 227 comes with E2 grips and feels good in my smaller hands, it really doesn't feel much bigger than a 226.

You guys do realize that OP said small budget? Nothing SIG or HK makes fits that description. Plus, I think HK guns are seriously overpriced, but that is just me.

Mark

Nope, not just you - frankly I really don't get the HK45's popularity - it would be a reasonable (if somewhat oversized, and top heavy) gun at $600-700, but there's no way it's worth what they're charging. I hated the one I had, but it sold pretty quick, for a ridiculous price.

Glock 21/21SF
Sig P220R/Carry/Elite
HK MARK 23
HK USP

The Best choices easily...

You must have huge hands, none of those guns (except possibly the 220 with reasonable grips fitted) would work for me. Also, none of those guns except the Glocks (which are really not good to shoot due to the insane trigger reach) are even reasonable priced. The Mark 23 is a bad joke, that costs, what, $3K? Yeah right.

I've owned the MARK 23 twice and is not a joke....it's a serious offensive combat pistol. At my 50 yard indoor range placing 10 rounds of factory 230 gr. FMJ in a grouping the size of a grapefruit standing up two hand tactical stance in fairly easy. I would feel very confident if I took it out to Silverdale outdoor range 100/200 yeards I could hit the gong many times using 200 grain +P @ 1050 fps at 200 yards.

Coupled with the Streamlight LAM (Laser Aiming Module) and Knights Armament Corp sound suppressor ....it's probably the most Elite Combat .45 Auto pistol on the planet. Standard 12 round magazine, long sight radius and match grade 5.9" Chrome lined barrel ....+P+ 200/230 grain premium JHP would be an insanely accurate package.

Once I get finances in order...i will buy it for the 3rd time, hopefully keeping it for many years down the road....that is...if I can still find a NIB MARK 23 ???

Such a lethal work of art...suppressed ;)

On digging a little, you don't in fact need a time machine or a million dollars. Pretty limited production apparently but there are some out there.

Wouldn't care, its a .45 Luger. Don't know about the originals, I'm not an expert just an enthusiast. Heard there were 2 submitted for trials, one missing and the other accounted for. Not sure about total production.

Thread derailed!
