CQBm7 Championship AAR

On Saturday October 3rd, the Ontario Rifle Association held the 2015 CQB Championship at Langemark Range, CFB Borden. The weather can only be described as fall like, with sunny skies, cool temps and brisk wind. Service Conditions for certain as the gusty breezes made changing out targets a bit of an adventure (blowing some targets in transit sideways and taking competitors with them). However the RCO and competitors at the event handled everything smoothly.

The competition portion of the event ran like clockwork. It was an example of how a CQB match should be run. Everybody was on the ball and 5 relays of shooters were finished about as fast as possible. Zero hiccups except for one target set that the wind decided to flatten mid-match. This required a re-shoot for the affected competitor but this went off without a hitch and the rest of us barely noticed the break in pace. This is a credit to our fantastic RCO, Tim K. Without him....CQB events would be somewhat less fantastic.

The Championship event usually brings together a lot of familiar and friendly faces and this was no exception. This includes participants from CQB Valcartier who were out in force, complete with a team flag. (which is awesome by the way) From staff to competitors the ORA CQB Championship continues to be one of the flat out most fun ways to spend a day on the range.

Another outstanding match, it's always a great group of guys that show up. If you haven't tried it I highly recommend it. Thanks to Tim, Dave, Dave from Montreal, the stats people all the other helpers.

As usual the TimFu kept the rain away, next time he'll ramp up his powers to turn off the wind.

Ganderite is always getting great pictures of us, well here is one of him:

Excellent scores by all. Congrats to the winners! I regret I had to go home sick... I even had a new scope to try out!

Sorry to be late posting these pictures. When I got home I thought it would be OK to take a nap.... Woke up around 3 am....

This is the "One in the head", as elusive as a Sasquatch. Proof that they do exist.

Proper shout out to Bugout for wearing pink this weekend.

Thanks, the shoutout goes to my wife who has been a trooper through it all, and even made it out to shoot CQB earlier this year and will hopefully do it again when she can. The pink AR furniture will move onto her AR.

And, I continued my demonstration of being a victim of fashion today, running in the CBC RFTC in Burlington. Here I am posing with my next car, a Maserati ... yeah ... right

Last Saturday was the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer tournament at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. My company had 10 teams entered, we raised $217,000 for the Princess Margaret Hospital. I got to play with Rick Middleton and against Dan Daoust. The tournament set two Guinness World Book records, one for most money raised (approx $2.2 million) and the most players in a single road hockey tournament (1,333).

Thank you to Erich , Tim , Dave , Sara , Sandy and the helpers that make this event run smoothly.
As always , thanks to Jim for his TLC in the taking and posting of the range day pictures.
Of course the wind had its moments during the match. Some figure 11's were taken hostage.
What a great group of guy's and girl's to shoot with. Always ready to help and share.

Congrat's to Randy. Nice Sig dude.

The improvement in scores is incredible. I can remember when a 400 might win.

I lose most of my points on the pistol, plus I get poor score on the shooting on the move.

I am trying to get a Service Pistol Challenge scheduled for Winona, soon. It will involve the CQB type pistol shooting, with more generous times. It will require about 200 rounds of pistol ammo, so should be a chance for most of us to improve our pistol scores.

Stay tuned.

Was a pleasure having Ganderite as my safety.

Gave me a few tips ill never forget.

Though simple tips, I'd never even thought of them.
