Front Bags and sling studs....

I have always found it a pain in the derrière with some of my rifles while shooting off bags. My front rest sometimes interferes with the QD studs. A few of my rifles like to rest on the bags far enough rearward that it doesn't matter, but I own a few where the stud comes into contact with the bag (usually with recoil) and I find it both irritating and makes me question if it is affecting the POI negatively. Let alone slowly chewing at the bag.

Anyone else find his an issue? If so, what is your solution other than removing the stud, I don't like pulling the action from the stock just for bench use only to have to do it again to reinstall the stud. I do a lot of long range walking hunting and find a good sling a necessity obviously.

Why do you have to pull the action out of the stock to get the front swivel stud out? If you have the machine screw / nut style front swivel the nut should be countersunk and a jam fit in the Forend. If it turns in the countersink, glue it in with bedding compound.

I could save myself a lot of grief by taking out the studs every time, but for some perverse reason resist doing it. I've torn every front bag Ive ever owned and most of the rear ones too. Slow learner I guess.

You can do what Dogleg suggest but it you don't want to do that then Flush Cups is your answer

A few of my rifles weren't done properly and I have to remove the action to get to the nut, never thought of bedding it into the stock! Duh!!

Thanks guys.

Thanks for this. I've been struggling with this this year and suspect I'm not setting my bags up properly. I've had a heck of a time finding good useable info to try and improve myself here because every shooter has a different setup that works for them. Like 30 sound opinions that don't fully agree with each other but work for each shooter. I'll have to try this next time out and see if I can get those pesky fliers to cooperate with the rest of my groups.

I try to put my bags as far back as possible. Pressure on the barrel from the front of the stock can change poi

An interesting read
