Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25x56mm Unboxing!

Although I don't disagree with you at all....not one time has a whitetail or gopher shot back at me....

I tend not to prescribe to the "Russians/ISIS are coming" mentality either..... But I may have a can of FDE tremclad in the garage, just in case....

-J.

I'm dealing with ISIS coyotes, those deceptive pricks seem to notice anything out the ordinary so mentally I like brown guns.

Well, I tried to zero it today, didn't work as planned.. I could not get the reticle to move high enough (all shots were WAY low, like 20ft in front hitting sand at 100 meters).
I have a feeling that the "zero" isn't a zero.. When I first got the scope on Thursday the double turn indicator would pop out after 0.5 mrad, and wouldn't turn below 13.7 (wouldn't go below). All I did was loosen the set screws, pull up, click to the right, click to left, re-tighten allen screws. All was working as it should, the turret would turn back below 13.7, and indicator would pop up when past first turn. I was able to go from -0.6 MRAD to +26.3 MRAD.

How do you set the turrets back to "mechanical" zero? I seriously hope there is nothing wrong with this scope. I know for a fact that my rifle is good to go, I was hitting the 300 yard gong 10/10 times last Friday with my zeiss conquest hd5. I double checked the rings, base and everything was still torqued to spec. Could the 20 MOA base be the issue? I know s&b recommend the 44.4 MOA base from spuhr, and apparently the scope was designed for "aggressive cant".

I knew this was coming..... I was expecting this post all day.

Has anyone upgraded to the tenebraex covers? If so where did you get them? I really don't like the look of the butler creek caps, feels too "cheap" to be on a S&B.

Tenebraex S&B 56mm cover kit shows in stock at Wolverine Supplies. Yes they are awesome.

Can you share with the rest of us, namely me, so that I don't pound 50$ worth of ammo into the ground as well??!!!!

Well, first would be read the instructions very carefully.. Second, if you can't adjust your reticle "higher" than it needs to be (removing elevation),lock turrets and unscrew the double turn allen keys, unlock and lift until black ring is shown, dial back to how much you were off, say 1st shot is 8 mil high dial to 9 and lock turret/tighten set screws. Then continue to zero as needed.. I can't believe how simple it really is, looking back at it it should have been obvious..

nuts should have bought em with the scope, would have saved the shipping.

Finally got it zero'd, well almost had some more user error problems.. I had to zero it twice in a row, as I think I didnt loosen the allen keys enough/and not pulled up enough. In my defense I ordered non locking/mtc turrets, all my research was done on doubleturn turrets.

Overall I really enjoyed the clarity, even in misty rain I was able to keep shooting until 6:15pm. I stopped once I couldn't see bullet holes on "shoot-n-c" targets at 100m. The turrets take some getting used to especially ccw to cw. I still can't decide whether I'm happy I got the locking/mtc instead of the doubleturns.

It seems I probably could have gone with the lower Spuhr mount, but at the time I did NOT want to order the wrong one and be left with a $516 paper weight. The numbers I used was, OD of objective is 62mm half = 31mm. The ISMS comes in two heights 30mm or 38mm , I didn't want to take the chance as my Zeiss with high rings was about 2mm from the rail so I picked the one with more room for error. Which was the same reason behind choosing the 0 MOA cant mount, I already had a 20 MOA rail with the cadex chassis figured this way I could always buy a 40 MOA rail when required for MUCH cheaper than another mount to get less cant.

Very cool set up, for myself i have no experience with the MTC but i highly appreciate the DT on my S&B (3)... JP.

Shot out to 300 yards, used strelok for first time with guessitmated MV. Dialed it up to 0.9 mrad (calc called for 9.4click), shot low, shot another to confirm, added 0.1mrad more and bam basically center! Then proceeded to use rest of my rounds to hit the gong, 5/5 shots rang it. I can finally see holes on regular paper at 300 yards.

Cool we are seeing the zeroing pattern... JP.

I finally got to use the illumination feature today! It was raining like crazy, around 4:15PM so quite cloudy. I could finally see the illuminated reticle starting at 3, just needs to be dark haha. So I highly doubt I'll ever use the illumination feature.
