pic of the SVD Dragunov ill never get to shoot

Also of note regarding the SVD and it's "abilities". The Soviets and even the modern day Russian Federation, don't apply same approach to sniper designations as we do in the West.

Under their doctrine, maximum conventional engagements with "sniper" weapons and tactics were all developed within a 200m to 400m range. Essentially Russian "snipers" were trained under a Western equivelant of the role of designated Marksmen to be very efficient at ranges up to 400m.

And any and all modern Higher powered soviet rifles will be more than accurate enough at those distances as was the SVD for sure. It's no tack driving tuned M700 bolt gun nor was it ever intended or designed to be such.

Some interesting history on a misunderstood firearm lol :D

I can't get it either. Why SVD is prohibited - it's long, not especially accurate, semi-auto. Got a 10 rounds magazine, but it can be pinned. Some bureaucrat didn't like the name and that's it - none of us can have it.

Its simply because its an AK variant ( according to them ) and AK is banned big time because according to a group of so called firearm specialist its an assault rifle.

The SVD is not an AK variant. it is a completely different rifle. it is just aesthetically modelled from the AK so the battery of arms would be similar for the soldiers

you guys would probably Lynch me for saying this...

but i nearly bought an SVD last month... in weighing up the capabilities vs price etc.. i ended up going for an M14 because it is a better rifle.

the SVD does have a certain cool factor though

Yup let me be the first one to say "I hate you" (LOL).

By the way have you receive the package yet?

Move to the country1.) build a 200m range with the Firing point at the threshold of a garadge door get it certified by your CFO. Gun never leaves your Residence, shoot lots.
2.) shoot out int the woods where no one is no one knows what your shooting.3.) move to Iqualaquat wher no one cares what you shooting even if some one saw you.

It was the unfortunate result of a mistranslation of the rifle's name by the RCMP. They translated it as 'of Dragons', as in, to be used by dragons to oppress mankind. This was influenced by the oversize trigger guard that was assumed to be designed to accomodate dragon talons. Had the authorities consulted the proper experts, they would have clearly seen that the length of pull, eye relief, and scope height are out of all proportion to dragon anatomy.
The correct translation is, of course, Dragon-Off, as in to be used in the deterence of, and defence against dragons and dragon attack. The oversize trigger guard is designed to accomodate winter gloves, as used by people in remote northern areas most susceptible to dragon attack due to lack of formal air defence.

I think the RCMP has realized their error in this regard, but instead of lose face by reversing themselves, they are proceeding to allow more semiautomatic .50 rifles to come into the country non-restricted. these guns are quite cost prohibitive for individuals. I only hope that small communities will be able to pool their resources and purchase a few, so that canadians are no longer easy pickings for rogue dragons.

That is a beautiful firearm.
I hope one day we can roll back some of these ridiculous laws so it can once again see the light of day.

They probably haven't seen neither SVD nor AK except on the pictures.

Thats pretty damn funny! Lol!

I was told there IS a way to shoot the PROHIB's other than handguns. I told him except for the 12.6's? He was full of himself. He insisted there was a way to do it though, he was really adamant about it. Any truth to this? Or is he jerking my chain?

Yeah. Live out in the country and shoot the damn thing. Black helicopters won't show up believe it or not.

Yeah IF you were lucky enough to have some 12.2's and also better hope your neighbour isn't a certain nosy little you-know-what who goes by the name "Cukier, Wendy" Laugh2

OP: I know of two ways to get an SVD LEGALLY. One? Is a deactivated and NEUTERED. The other is an AIRSOFT. I'm wheeping just thinking about it but at least the airsoft can shoot. Though it sure as sh!t won't shoot what I'd like!

I guess its cool to have the real thing.... but in all honesty, you could've bought a Real Sword SVD (airsoft gun) thats looks, weighs and feels exactly like the real thing; and hung it op on your wall instead for a much more smaller price tag. lol

I transformed a SVT into a SVD look alike (sort of) and that seals the hole in my heart..... until i see a video of some lucky American, or New Zealander shooting his real Dragunov, or even a Vepr; Then it starts bleeding again:ang

In the past you could get a STATT and shoot 12.x rifles at SOME ranges, but that changed many years ago. Now only 12.6 pistools can go...

The Czech Republic and Serbia allow semi autos too. I'm tempted to move to a rural area outside of Prague. Pepper spray, tazers, batons, etc are not only LEGAL but the police actually ENCOURAGE people to carry the weapons!!! Self defence is literally encouraged!

Full autos are difficult to get (a Category A license isn't easy) and without an exemption? You cannot buy hollow point bullets (except hunters with the hunting license) but you can TRY to get class A. Everything else in semi automatic is fine! No mag limits either.
