Cutting down Mosin 91/30

I also cut mine down with a hacksaw and used emery cloth to clean up outside of the bore, then a brass screw and lapping compound the recrown it. I haven't shot it yet, but I can wait to!

I used a cheap refurb for the project and I'm very please with how it turned out.

Because it's a bolt action, does the barrel still have to be at least 18.5"? .. or can it be shorter with a certain 'overall length instead?

Since we are talking about cutting down the stock, does anyone had any experience in prying out the escutcheons ?

Yes, depending on what type they are, you can use a small flat punch and a small hammer and tap them out of the stock through the hole on the opposite side.
The sloppy half assed kind that were being used during war production are easily removed. Not sure how secure the much more robust pre/post war ones are.

I'm still waiting on my dovetail to weaver adapter. Then throwing a cheap red dot on it and it should be good to go.

Make sure you throw up pics when you get it! Please
I love my hex receiver but may have to get a round one, and shorten it after seeing how yours turned out. Good job!

Where did ya find the dovetail to weaver adapter? Also what if the dovetail on the Mosin is tapered?

I don't want to drop more on the optic than I did the rifle. I tried an NC star scout scope in the past and wasnt impressed with the quality.

Any suggestions for a cheap scout scope?

I bought two from eBay. The best quality one is a VisionKing and still reasonably priced. The other is a UTG and it's decent for the cost. The gradients on the reticle are a little thick but it still works great and gets me 2-3" groups at 200 M.
