i will be ordering a frankford arsenal wet tumbler this weekend. i saw that canadian tire has a couple different lemi-shine options available and was wondering which one do i use? the "booster" or the "rinse"?

I use the Booster, the pins, and Dawn liquid soap. Works well for me, unreal how dirty the water is after. I usually dump out the old water and throw in some fresh again for a short while to rinse out, again super dirty water.

The product I have been using is marked "original", I think it's the same stuff as the booster. Works great, just don't add too much. A 9mm case full is all you need, and about the same for the Dawn soap too.

I used the plastic bottle one marked original detergent booster. I use 2 teaspoons, 2 more each of dawn and tide cold water into Frankford arsenal tumbler, for 60 minutes with 10 pounds of pins and 170 308 cases. With 5 pounds of ss I had major peening, with 10 is minimal and clean in a hour.

So are you saying you use ten pounds of pins instead of just five pounds of pins? Could you happen to post a picture of the results. I just use five pounds of pins and 1 and 1 of dawn and the regular lemi-shine and hot water. I run them for about a hour also and I don't really see the peening.

I stopped using lemi-shine once i went to stainless steel pin tumbling. I use turtle wax ice car wash now. Removes the carbon really well, and puts a synthetic wax finish on the brass.

Yep, on the case mouths I don't have any pics from before.. But I did just put a batch in that needs to be drained and dried so i'll post a pic in a bit.

See any benefits using the Turtle wash? Shinier? You still have to lube eh before resizing?

Thanks bsand. I've looked at mine with a magnifying glass(getting old) and I really can't see it??

I think it had to do with me putting in too many cases compared to pins, I usually put MIN 100 cases at a time. Usually closer to 200, so there was more case vs case contact than case vs pin contact.

This batch was 100 cases with 10 pounds (or whats left) ss pins, 2 teaspoon lemishine, 2 tide and 2 dawn and hot water. 60 minutes on the tumbler.

These cases have been reloaded 5 times, fired 6 (1st was federal gold medal match).

With the turtle wax ice, you still have to lube when resizing, but it seems like they size a little easier. Also, the lube is easy to clean off, and they clean quickly next time through the tumbler. They also don't tarnish.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lots of ways to do it.

So that's peening? Or is that what it looks like if it's not being peened? Mine look like that. Very little like what is showing on yours. When I debur and chamfering it takes care of any little marks. I'm really beginning to think this is a non issue. I only put in around 70 or 80 or so when I wet tumble. Maybe I will keep the cases at a limited number.

Thanks for taking the time to post those pictures! Much appreciated bsand!

Always willing to try something different. I think I'll give that a whirl next time. Thanks for the tip.

I initially had a hard time finding lemi shine so used pure lemon juice (the stuff in the plastic lemon looking container) with great results. This is in a tumbler with ss pins and a drop of soap.

the citric acid in the lemon juice works similar to lemi-shine

there is only one available in Canadian Tire which has different packaging print from the one I saw in US store and on youtube, but it works fine with my stainless steel tumbler. shinnier than the factory ammo. ;)

I had problems with the peening when I wet tumbled at first, I was having issues with hard and inconsistent bullet seating and even some copper shaving from the bullet when seating, now I just debur and chamfer before resizing and all is good. Also went from 3 hours to 2 and brass is still clean.
