Handgun transfer wait times?

Ive tried to understand this approval process, but I simply cannot wrap my head around it. If the firearm is not prohibited (which has been already assured by the mere fact that I bought it), then what needs approval? I have a RPAL, which by its designation, approves me to purchase firearms in that category. If you know the firearm is OK to buy and the person who is buying it has the proper accreditation (which is done by the CFO operators), then what's the hold up?

This is offensive.

A little background......The last transaction (person to person) took one day att approval from Ontario to British Columbia. A week later, I purchased a few more handguns (retailer to person) and the count is almost a month in approval limbo.

I have been doing this for more years than I care to mention.

The 3 that I have are all person to person, 2 in Ontario and 1 in Quebec. I was hoping this was THE Friday, but seeing as how they close soon, I doubt that will happen....

^ This!

I think the answer is a combination of "make work project for bureaucrats" and "make the process as frustrating to try and drive people out of restricted firearms."

It's working, I'm getting rid of all my pistols other than the p226 classic 22lr. Only reason I'm keeping it is to have one on file incase of further restrictions and grandfathered status.

I'm gunning for you, and please let me know when you d get it because if you get yours before mine, I'm going to give 'em a call to see what's up.

Bought and paid for my next restricted on October 9 , CFO completed the transfer on the 16th. The seller says they haven't received any notification yet? Ontario to BC.

Normal. I sold my pistol to a guy in Ontario, I didnt receieve anything frmo CFO until 1 week AFTER it was delivered. The guy I sold it to had called and found out it was approved. Sorry, but no seller is going to call every day asking if its approved. That job is up to the buyer, if I'm selling I'll wait until either A) buyer tells me its approved) or B) I get letter in mail, then I call for status and STATT.

I recently bought a Shadow in Calgary and picked it up the next day. Gotta love the AB/NWT CFO! :)

I sold a pistol to a fellow CGN'er in Ontario and the transfer took 7 business days. The Ontario CFO was kind enough to e-mail once the sale was approved.

Still trying to finish a trade with a cgner from an ee ad. I am from ontario, trader from saskatchewan. We both called to initiate transfers on oct 16th last week. The trader managed to confirm my reference number the same day while i had to wait until oct 19th to confirm my end because of the hours of operation and the weekend. Anyhow, my seller confirmation arrived on oct 20th so my gun is no longer mine. Called cfo on oct 20th for an statt dated oct 22nd so i can ship my gun to the trader. Oct. 21st i received buyer notification for my trade incoming. Shipped my gun on the 22nd. Trader shipped his on the 23rd. So everything is in the hands of the post office at this point.

In over 40 purchases from a store I've never had to wait more than 48hrs for the Ontario CFO to approve the transfer, private transfers on the other hand I've had take just a few days all the way up to 6 weeks.
