So just wanted to see what you guys thought about hornady's new ELD-X bullets. If their claims are true being able to have match grade ammo that will work equally well as a hunting bullet that's like killing two birds with one stone.
Do you think they will live up to the hype and do you think cost will be viable for both?

I know myself I would lave to have just one load for target and still be able to take out hunting with the same dope

Why not, I'll give it a try. Wonder if that means we'll eventually see an AMAX II with the new polymer tip. :)

I feel like they have been selling the AMAX with a broken component and now they feel the need to spout their breakthrough, when it is really just finding an error in a product they have sold millions of....but I can't wait to buy some of the new "improved" versions as well

Since the BC drops when the tip is melted with the current version, does that mean that the advertised BC is overstated?

I've never found Hornady to be good pure match bullets..... They make decent hunting/varmint bullets, but I'd go elsewhere for a match bullet.

Seems like the correct assumption, however with their new "perfect copies" I would think these will be a better choice in the future. Just picked up a box of 208gr AMAX for my .300winmag, but I think my choice/execution of reloading skills will play a bigger part than the dropping BC, especially at the distances I will be shooting (<800yards)

I also wonder what temp the current plastic tips melt at, and what FPS would produce it.....

The tips melting are affecting thier BC at extreme distances. Unless you plan on taking game at 800 plus yards this is irrelevant.

Shoot......most F-Class guys don't start pointing meplat till you start really tweeting at 1000 plus yards.

Good to know, but I would enjoy shooting at those ranges if I get the chance.

The Iron Press and priming unit looks pretty good for a single stage press. Humm, maybe it's time to flip my old Lee 50th Annversary kit for one. Having the Hornady quick change bushing system would work nicely in conjunction with my LNL AP.

The scale does look interesting. I'll wait for some reviews first.

Both scale and press look good. I converted my Rockchucker to quick change bushings and works really well.

Well, if they actually combine hunting with pure match accuracy, it would bridge the gap. But most likely only for those that see game, then run away as far as they can to shoot from a mile lol. Even then, it's still jut an interloc, not even an interbond.

This is exactly correct, the melting tip "theory" comes and goes ever couple years. Every manufacturer needs some new improved with some Hollywood theatrics thrown in
for the new brood of shooters, or the bored seasoned shooters. Plastic tipped bullets never have been true match quality.

Will there be a recall on all the now flawed bullets out there?

Guaranteed they will sell though

Not buying the marketing hype...
