I have several 1911's ... a Sig Stainless Target, S&W E-series, Colt Gold Cup, Colt Delta Elite to name a few ... out of those for me the S&W shoots the nicest. I am considering picking up a Kimber Stainless ... but I am wondering if it will just feel and shoot like the others ... so of course I am second guessing pushing the buy it now button ...

So to those who have a Kimber and something else to compare it to ... are they really different? And why?

Or should I forget it and move on to something different ...

Thanks

Over the years I've had a 'number' of 1911's including a variety of Gold Cups and a few custom jobs. Presently, I have two. A custom Colt, done up by an old gunsmith friend and fellow shooter that I purchased from his estate. And the second, a Kimber Super Match II. I also have a 1911 'wanna be' in the form of a S&W 4506.

The Kimber Super Match II, top left in the photo, is by far top of the list of any of the 1911's I've ever had.

IMO, they are don't particularly deserve the reputation they have for being great, or the reputation they have for sucking.

The worst thing I've seen consistently is barrels in the white, which arrive from the factory with rust on them.

Other than that, I don't think they're all that much different than Springfield, say, given similar price points.

I would trust the Kimber to go bang every time, can't say the same for the other...

I own colts, springfields, sign, sw's, sti's, limber & sam's, unfortunately the limber rates only above the sam. And it's a kimber trl/really custom ii. The quality is not like it used to be

sti......couldn't agree more, I have my first Sti right now, there will be another...daaaammmm this things a shooter..

You pretty much get what you pay for I find. If you buy a high end Kimber in the 2-3k family range, it is going to be a very nice gun (well fit, nice attention to details, a lot of finishing touches done by hand). If you buy an average Kimber in the 1000-1500 range, it will be just that. No doubt it will be a perfectly good gun (some really like the Stainless Target II and eclipse for example) but it will be comparable to what you already have.

Really? You like it better than the nighthawk.

As far as shooting it goes, yeah, it has never had any issues at all, I am fairly certain when I pull the trigger it will work. The Nighthawk hasn't gotten much use at all because you'd be lucky to get 40-50 rounds through it before it starts failing to function and will require cleaning. So if a choice had to be made which one to keep I'd be putting the Nighthawk up for sale before the Kimber.

Interesting. And unfortunate. When you spend that much on a premium gun, you want it to function. Is it broken in? Some tightly fit guns need several hundred rounds before shooting reliably.

Owned an assortment of 1911 over the years. Have a Stainless Target II in 45ACP and an Eclipse in 38 Super, both are accurate and function great. There are lots of really good 1911 out there. I like Kimbers for what you get for the price, their not the do all end all. Once you jump into the $1200 + price range lots to choice from, pick what you like.

No Kimber, no STI in my herd...
Thinking of getting another Les Baer, i have a God Cup/ a Dan Wesson RZ/ a Sig Fastback Nightmare that have become safequeen to my LB...
When you know, guess you know what to buy... JP.:)

Got to be honest jp, if I had a couple of grand to put into another .45, I'd be going Sti again, they really feel special, that said, some folk don't really call them a 1911.....lol
