Magpul SGA Stock for Remington 870 & Mossberg 500 How do you like it? I heard somewhere that both stocks have a different angle to it is this true?

with the grip position does it feel like a pistol grip style of stock? I ask as I'm limited to pistol grip style stocks do to an injury I had in the past.

has anyone mounted one of these on a 20ga.

I've only played with the 870 version. You need to handle one for yourself because it doesn't feel like any other 870 stock. It has a steeper angled grip than a typical stock but not nearly a pistol grip.

I have SGA's on both 870's and 590's. It's a "must have" on any Mossberg as far as I'm concerned. If there's a difference in the grip angle as suggested, I can't tell the difference between them.

Having the ability to quickly adjust length of pull and cheek rise to suit your preferences is well worth the money spent. If you want an adjustable field stock, it doesn'tget much better than the SGA.

I've got average large hands for a guy that's 6'1" and I always found the reach to the trigger on a Mossberg to be just a little further then I'd like with a traditional stock. Pistol grip stocks were better but then you loose some of the easy access to the action release and safety. The SGA still allows you to use the Mossberg controls as they were designed but the reach to the trigger is no longer a stretch. Perfect.

I like PG stocks on the Mossberg. Yes, you can't reach the safety with your thumb anymore but it works for me. $69 US from Brownells (at the time there was only about .10 or so on the dollar).

Part of the reason you probably like the pistol grip is the shorter trigger reach. The safety reach is not such a big deal as you say but it does work better with the SGA.
Do you find the action release easy to use with your stock? I guess you just have to let go of the grip and do a "reach around"..... :)

Nice side by side, pretty easy to see that they kept the distance from the grip to the trigger similar on both, and to do that they had to make the Mossberg grip closer to the end of the receiver to account for the space taken up by the area where the action release is on a Mossberg.

They took the time to build the stocks specific instead of trying to adapt something to work with both.

Magpul did their homework. The comb is even improved. Less angle, wider and just perfect for bead sighted shotguns without a riser. Ambi sling loops plus the ability to add qd sockets, LOP from 12.5" to 14.5", a recoil pad that grips the shoulder well and does a good job absorbing recoil. Plus the grip angle/reach to trigger is excellent. I dont like the plastic cap for the stock bolt (back of the grip) on the Mossberg stock. You need to find just the right size of thing to stick in the tiny hole to pop it off. It has to be small enough to fit but strong enough to not just bend in half trying to get the cover off. I wish they used the rubber piece that the 870 model comes with. The only thing that sucks about the SGA is it doesn't match the classic looks of a basic defender.

I love the SGA on my 870, I went through four other stocks before being sold on this one. Standard, Hogue short, Hogue standard, Mesa Urbino. I'd used other stocks on friends 870's as well. I resisted getting it at first because I thought I was satisfied with its predecessor. Once I physically tried the stock on a friends scattergun I was sold. I don't see myself going with anything else as this stock does everything I want in a stock. Adjustable for length and comb, perfect grip angle, great grip texture, sling options, excellent butt pad, snag free.

I have it on my 590A1. Makes the gun about an inch shorter than my 870P despite the fact that my 870 has an 18.5" barrel and the Mossberg has a 20" barrel. With no LOP extension (stock 12.5") my girlfriend can shoot it and I can shoot it too. The recoil is about the same with the Mossberg and SGA as the walnut stock 870P with the limbsaver.

Action release isn't a problem as the thumb is right there. It's just the safety that I have to reach around for... I tried the Hogue 12" LOP and hated it, way too short. The Choate is about 13.25 with no spacers installed. It just feels right to me. Control seems to be better with less felt recoil.

I'm sure I'd like the SGA but I'm not going to spend the money on it unless I buy another 500 or 590.

Has anyone found the SGA stock for the 500/590 in the colour black? I've found a few sponsors with them in FDE but black seems to be sold out at my usual go to sites. Maybe I'll just have to spice things up and go FDE

Just an update, I got a SGA stock from a member here. I installed it on a Mossberg 500c model which is a 20ga for people that don't know that.

Now this Magpul SGA stock is listed to fit a 12ga shotgun the fit is very close with a minor lip from stock to frame.
I have been handling it for a hour now and I don't really notice it much anymore.
The fit on the top of the receiver is flush with the stock & only a minor lip on the sides of the frame which doesn't interfere with the hand.

The look is a bit odd as my Mossberg 500c is a MOBU camo gun now sporting a FDE stock, I might track down a Magpul MOE fore stock in FDE to match but over all this is my Turkey gun.

Does anyone know what the cheek riser height is on the factory Magpul SGA stock? as I might need to go up just a bit.

I'm not sure there's an actual listed height for the one that comes from factory, it's just the factory riser. Magpul does sell two cheek riser kits though. They each come with two risers.

The low kit comes with one that increases the height 0.25" over the factory riser and another 0.5" higher than factory.

The high kit comes with a 0.5" and 0.75".

I have all three, as they come with the Magpul edition 870.
The .75 riser is REALLY high. Best for use with a gun that has a picitinny rail and big Reddot.
I've used the .50 with Ghost rings and its fine. But not needed IMHO. Now I use the lowest one with for both beads and GRS.
