Was intending to pick up an SKS but after a little more research recently, decided on an SVT-40 instead - liking the more powerful 7.62x54R round than the smaller SKS 7.62x39 version. It's a 1941, matching numbers refurb, from the Ishsvek arsenal. It just seems wild to hold a 74 year old rifle in your hands that you know most probably saw use in WW2. You can't help but think of just who wielded it during those years and what their story is....a little piece of history that I'm thinking I'm going to keep whatever it shoots like.

nice choice. svt's are going up in value and are far less common than the sks. The sks is still a great gun but the svt's are imo more fun to shoot. a bit of a pain to clean but worth it.

Very nice choice indeed. A SVT was my first red rifle as well, in fact it was the first working rifle I ever owned. Be careful though, those red rifles breed like rabbits, I now own a Mosin, SKS, and Tok pistol even though I had never intended to expand my collection for another couple years yet.
Now buy yourself a cheap crate of ammo and go shooting. And if you're too impatient to shoot it and you're in the St. John's area, send me a PM and we can work something out, cause I have some ammo kicking around.

Go shoot it and enjoy yourself.

Yes can't wait to shoot it, have a 3 gun event next weekend - will take it along and make time to put a few rounds through it too just for ####s and giggles. Thanks Alkaline1! ;)

Beautiful SVT-40! Love that stock! You certainly have a great attitude about the history of the rifle, I feel the same way.
The SKS is like a fun buddy while the SVT-40 is much more challenging and rewarding.

You just hold this thing, and feel the weight of all that history :)

Great choice! I have owned 5 so far and have since kept the nicest 2 but always regret selling any of them.
Nothing like imagining where its been and who has fired them over 70 plus years.
Enjoy and take care of her, she will only appreciate in value.
