Uses for the SKS bayonet

I want to start a list of alternative or complementary uses for the SKS bayonet. I will start it with the most obvious.:wave:

1. Bayonet for finishing off game or when they jump out at you!
2. Monopod as a shooting aid.
3. Vertical rifle rack when in an empty field.
4. Bush machete (when edge is sharpened)
5. Crutch (with a block of wood on tip)
6. Cooking spit or shish kebab (marshmallows)
7. Rifle cleaning stand
8. Visual impact benefits (shock and awe)
9. Military training enablement
10. Gun cabinet storage enhancement prop when SKS stored upside down.
11. Stress relief when shooting is not possible. (watch the video)
12. A spare knife and general camp tool.
13. Fishing spear (slow moving shallow waters)
14. Ballistic experiment attachment point. Safety First! Do Not use anything hard or likely to shatter! Wear safety glasses! This is a bad idea!
15. Sports equipment for those who like that sort of thing, lawn darts, nunchuky, javelin.

Of course, as a bayonet, it's highest and best use is as a bayonet. For instance, during the spring gopher hunt, it's reassuring to have the option of the bayonet in the event of a "gopher swarm attack". Hand to claw combat is always a possibility in a badly infested field. Heck, I've had them pop up out of holes only a couple of meters away!

How hard is the steel of an sks bayonet, would it hold a sharp edge if one was ground and sharpened? I'd love to make a knife out of a spare if I could, would be pretty easy to make a handle and a kydex sheath. Is it tempered or just soft un hardened steel?
 
Standing the gun up on the end of the opened bayonet in the gun safe lets you squeeze a couple of extra guns into an already overstuffed safe. Keeps the muzzle off the bottom of the safe, and lifts the "fat parts" of the gun up to where the "skinny parts" are of the rest of the guns, to better utilize that valuable RCMP-approved storage area. :)

I have to agree with Canada tail, so far the best idea award goes to FreedomIsn'tFree for the rifle cleaning stand idea. Perfectly obvious use of the bayonet that I have been needing, but had not given any thought to. We also need input from those who have sharpened their bayonet - how was it?:wave:

Bayonet in ground for cleaning is lesser known method mentioned many times the last few years here.
It's a good if you use water to clean your SKS.
