WINCHESTER MODEL 100 in .284 Win.

Joe5493 thanks for offering up some interesting video footage.
Coyote, with this kinda help(video and gun nuts) what could possibly go wrong?
Stop, don't answer that one...
If the guy in the video can do it with an Allen wrench and a couple of screw drivers then most anyone can do it.
Have some penetrating oil handy for the gas block nut.. That looks to be the worst of anything that could get gummed up.
Work on a towel and fold an end over the action when your about to slide the trigger groups out, that should prevent any springs from going sproingggg!
If you want, can look up some old value info from the Blue Book if you like?
Also , did you get the lead on those reloading dies??
Take your time and hit replay several times and you'll do fine.
Tight Groups with the clean gun,
Rob

Looky, don't look at it, it's uggerly.Tizz got them see threwz ring things on it and it has a Bushnelle scope on it too.
You just can not unsee the beauty of this fine gun.
Trust it groups well with the little time you spent with it.
Again, you can send it my way for the above mentioned offer and I'll give it a good home.
Good Score on your part!
Rob

I'll up Rob's offer by a notch! Whatever that may be! I've always wanted one in 284.

oh Lord, I just saw the pics, that scope and mounting system, and it's a post, can I retract my offer, with no penalty, PLEASE! Rob, it's all yours! And I'll pay half the shipping for any inconvenience!

That's how it came to me two-dogs. There isn't a marking anywhere on the scope. It's clear, has a post reticle, and works perfect though.

Since I was never much interested in the rifle, it's a safe queen and I don't know much about the 100's. All I know is it was free, and going by the serial number Winchester says it's a '63. Who knows I guess, it really makes no difference to me lol.

I used to collect 100's and 88's as well. Then I finally long at last got a Finnwolf after many many years of searching. I then let the Win collection go. I guess I should have kept a couple.
The post rifles had pressed checkering with the leaf. I suppose the stock could have been changed somewhere along the way.

I really don't know two-dogs, but it came from the original owner, and I am 99.99% positive it was never touched.

This has turned into a bit of a high jack, sorry folks.

I can send you pics of you would like two-dogs, or anyone else that can clear up what I have here. I never paid any attention to it before.

perhaps it is one of those serial numbers so close to the pre/post that it could have snuck out of the factory with the pre metal in a post stock. Maybe possible! Maybe a super Winchester guy will chime in, hopefully!

Ok, so I was looking into the serial numbers as well and according to my findings mine is a pre 64. I do see that my stock has the typical post 64 markings. Any thoughts? Why would my serial number indicate a build pre 64?

Unlike other Winchester models I believe there was very little difference if any in metal or design of the action between pre 64 or post 64 in Model 100's ... it was all in the wood.

Here is a link to a lot of knowledge: http://www.leeroysramblings.com/Gun Articles/winchester_model_88_100_info.html

what book or info place are you using to determine the year of manufacture with the serial number? Perhaps there is miss info there?
