Thank you Lord for the fine gifts! History Repeats Itself Today!!!

I see your point! That is another way of looking at it!

Crap two-dogs your christian? the meat you hunt could be... hmmm interesting.

How about this spin all creations are controlled by God and things only happen by his allowance. So by your family quickly killing this Animal you saved it from a harsher trial. i.e torn apart by wolves, starvation etc

There is apparent good and apparent bad, it takes work to see the inverse when only one is present. Maybe through the meat of this deer someone will donate money to a conservation effort and more deer will have better lives.

We can only see the apparent and we can only guess at the things that may happen because of our actions. So yes dying does suck, to an extent, but their are worse ways to go ;) and at least we benefit from the animal...

why yes I am! But, I must admit that I have not been in church since my momma made me go to Sunday School away back when!

And look whut happened to yer feet..........

I never thought of that! I'd be willing to go to Church on Sundays, but not during the hunting seasons! Do you think I would regain the full use of my feet if I started going, or is it too late, what's done is done?
Some Doc's say nothing will ever change for the better in my feet for me:(

Outstanding! Awesome brow tines.

Especially nice to get one like that during a generally poor year like this one. Congrats!

I see that I'm not the only one who cuts them off above the hocks. I don't take any chances with those glands...but my butcher always gives me hell for that when it's time to hang them up. :)

well well well, my oldest Jr does it again! At 9:27 AM this morning, his American Compact 7mm-08 rang out! Once again a head shot did not present itself so a vitals hit it had to be. It clipped the heart (sadly my best Pals won't get this one). It went about 20 yards and down it went. It was one hulofa long pull back to the vehicle. Thank God the brush was not bad this time. Smaller tines than the last one but lots of good meat on this one. Buddy from out of town will take this one home if he doesn't get one before he goes home on Monday afternoon. It's plenty cool enough now, so we'll skin it shortly and let it hang until Mon morning. Pics to follow as soon as possible. We saw 2 does on the way home, they posed for the cell ph camera forever. That's my Wilbert (lil Willy) looking to see if there is more stuffed inside the back hatch!

Woo - we are getting deep!

If there is a Lord God that created/controlls all things, then we would do well to give Him credit for our lunch/moccasins/gunrack - or lack thereof. When we are/were young, we hope/pray for a dear/deer and then once we get one, we may forget who we asked and take credit to ourselves for the conquest.

If I were the Giver - I think that such an attitude would irk me.

If we accept that when the deer receives bad so that we get "good" - we could hardly argue against our receiving "bad" for someone else's benefit even if the beneficiary is not apparent.

Maybe "pay it forward" works?

Off to put the skiff away.

well, the fat lady just sang, the last of our hunters just arrived at home. They came in empty, no more venison for 2015. We will be short by next season, but we'll just have to eat more fish, chicken, pork, beef and bison and canned spaghetti! This evening's events will be to finish butchering and vac packing the remaining meat. Hope everyone got something.

Congrats two dogs.... Never considered black powder season?....

I turned 40 before this season and it challenged me to do things differently...... I am very pleased I did.... Harvested two so far and am heading out for black powder season in an attempt for #3.... Had to buy an extra freezer to accommodate it all.... My best yet... And been doing this for 24 years now....

Greatly appreciated your posts this year during the season... Along with others .... Enjoy!

thank you very kindly! Yes, we used to do muzzle loader, and have filled the freezer during that season in the past, but my son's now have a different job that does not allow much if any time off work during the season. The farmers usually go 7 days a week during that time and they have to be on hand to fill their needs. I would love to get back into it, maybe someday. We still have our muzzle loaders sitting in the back row of the safe. Haven't even fired them in a number of years.
