Went to C-Tire to price up some rounds for my new-to-me Model 81, and was shocked to see plain ol' blue box Federals for $39.99 a box! Guess I need to start reloading.

That's not bad! The .303 bullets here that expensive, and the savage shells are atleast 20 or more dollars here. So that's 60$ per 20!!!
I'm paying more than 9$ a box more this year than I did last year for my 7x57 Remington Core-lokt. Winchester 303 British 180gr is $26.99 at my local Canadian Tire which is nice.
Mine is charging 35.99 for the same .303 British.
Seems the two local stores (one a gun store, and the other Canadian Tire) are having a competition to see who can get away with charging more.

Yup time to start reloading, factory rolled ammo isn't going to get cheaper anytime soon! I started reloading years ago when I choked over the price of the Federal red box loaded with Noslers . I noticed I could get a box of 50 partitions for cheaper than a box of the loaded ammo. I invested in a Lee Loader kit for the princely sum of $30 shortly after and haven't looked back. Haven't spent much more on reloading either since then (other than components of course) just added a few odds and ends.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RCTrAxBJ00 Hi Yall My first post so I thought I would make it a good one My Savage 300 is dated 1964 (from my dad). Well like you I dont want to drop 40$ every time I take this out of the gun Vault. This was my way around the issue . I also only use 110 grain rounds through it, due to its age.
just what do you expect is going to happen if you go more than 110 gr? 150 gr is tailor made for the .300 savage on deer. As far as spending 40 bucks every time you take it out goes, it is a hunting rifle and cartridge and there are much more cost effective options for a fun day at the range.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RCTrAxBJ00 Hi Yall My first post so I thought I would make it a good one My Savage 300 is dated 1964 (from my dad).
