CZ 452 vs 455 in 22lr

CZ 452's are a dime a dozen, buying a discontinued one vs a 455 which has the advantage of removing barrel makes no sense to me. 455 like others have mentioned is built better and can add custom barrels, that would be my choice.

Buying a gun with interchangeable barrels requires that you re-zero your scope. That makes no sense to me personally. Also, .22lr/.22WMR...I MIGHT put the same AO scope on. 17HMR~the scope I'd use for that would likely never be the scope I'd use on a 22lr. It's a cool feature, and I'm confident CZ probably got it right...but I'll take a 452 over a 455 anytime. Heck, I've done it twice now. :)

Don't get me wrong the 452 is a great gun but after owning a Sako quad I love being able to change barrels. Rezeroing takes seconds and its cheap with rimfire. I just find it funny that people say an advantage of a 452 is that its discontinued....many many rifles are discontinued and loose value. Also the ability to buy a custom match grade barre and install it in my gun room really appeals to me, wait times and cost of good gunsmiths are insane. To each their own :)

Cheers!!

The 455 was geared more to places in the world where there is a limit to rifles you are to posses. Instead of driving to the range every time I want to shoot is waste of time for me. I'd rather just grab a gun and go shoot.

Just my personal experience:
I used to have 2 455s plus a barrel set in wmr. Rifles wouldn't shoot MOA at 50 yd and had random flyers even with very good target ammo and a decent scope (vx2 6-18 AO). Once I bedded the action and the first 1.5 in of the barrel, installed pillars, re-cut the crown plus some other small stuff, both rifles would do ½ in at 50yd consistently. The barrel swapping feature is neat for hunting but I had to grind out the barrel epoxy bedding whenever I wanted to shoot the WMR barrel….got a CZ 512 in WMR instead.

I have a couple of 452s in 22lr that all shot MOA or better out of the box. Once they got epoxy bedded they became as accurate as “other European imports” costing about twice as much as a new 452.

The 455s are great rifles but I am possessed with shooting tiny groups so the 452s are what I prefer.

CZ 452's are a dime a dozen

I've never heard anyone express such an opinion. If that were indeed the case I would presume we would be seeing many more 452's in the EE that we do. Most people I know seek out the 452's over the 455's. Checkout RFC for example...many people searching high and low for 452/3's while passing over in stock 455's. Having owned both I can say that I won't be trading in my 452's for 455's. That said, my 455 is no slouch.

Thanks,
Cal.

This...additionally CZ is now able to bulk manufacture 455 receivers, bolts, and stocks regardless of the caliber, thus saving them a mint on machines and workforce. The only item that have to be caliber specific are the barrels. Don't overlook this cost saving maneuver when making your decision. I'm not saying 455's are bad or anything...just be sure you know the whole story.

Thanks,
Cal.

I'd take a 452 over a 455. The 455 is more modular, standardized, and streamlined in production, but that does not necessarily make it shoot any better. My unicorn is a 452 Varmint in 17M2, seriously thinking about importing one at some point.

I guess I just see so many in the gopher patches and know many guys that shoot them, just thought they were very common. I had a 16.5" bbl American and it shot ok.

In those places where there's a limit to the number of rifles one can have, fewer rifles are sold than in places where there are no such limits. In places like Canada and the U.S., CZ 455 sales per capita are greater than in most every other country. Gun owners in North America have a lot of guns. As many people are aware, it's often impossible to have just one CZ rimfire rifle because once bitten by the CZ bug there's no going back. ;)

So your telling me I should buy the 452 I've had me eye on for a while even if I don't really need it right now ;)

The 452 is not the one you are looking for ( he says in his best Obi-Wan Kanobi voice).
The more expensive ammo you feed it, the tighter the groups.
Rim fire Central has loads of guys who shoot and Andersen CZ, 452,453,455?
Your choice is going to be?

I got the 452 varmint for various reasons, i do have expensive ammo that i will be testing out of it. RWS, eley team, club and tennex, and some s&b. i will get some s&w 333 too. hoping to hit MOA or sub MOA at 50, we'll see how it does! i'm the type that doesn't like to swap barrels for diff cals. i would rather just get a new gun :)

That's awesome! You will love that gun. Time to post some pictures.

You will love that varmint after you lighten up the trigger and work in the bolt. I've tried probably 20 types of quality ammo including $20 a box, save your money and run sk standard plus.
