SKS Test! Tula or Izhevsk?

Thank you for letting us know about this situation. The photo of the receiver cover serial number makes it quite obvious what was done (but not by whom)
Although it does not change the value much since it is a refurb, you did buy it with the idea that you were getting an Izzy.

Thanks PinkyPlinker, I do not want to name the retailer to be named at this time. But, yes I was very very surprised given this sellers reputation.

I specifically wanted a 1953 Izzy - and I paid a premium for it because of what it was supposed to be.

This was my initial question. Sneaky Russians at arsenal refurb Lol! I've said before that you REALLY have to look at these refurbs because arsenal could do almost anything at any repair phase.

Very good question to ask if the receiver cover serial number matched! I bet you have seen this before. And thanks for sharing, that is valuable info - its important to really look at these SKS's and to know what to look for if you are buying anything more than a shooter.
 
well whoever sold you that sks is wrong as all the others said . it's a Tula. look at the letter K at the end. if I'm not mistaken it's a 1958 Tula.
 
I'm not surprised. Prepare for a dismissive response followed by something like 'it was the rifle that was pictured and you selected it'.

Good information in this thread. Us red rookies wouldn't have a clue...and if it's the seller I think you're referring to, good luck. They have a bit of a rep for a certain level of "indifference" when it comes to customer dissatisfaction.

I made an order for a 53 izzy myself a few months ago. Ended up getting a 54. Also from a reputable "w". Was told i would get a discount on my next one. Turns out the discount is free shipping. hoorah bust out the champagne and party streamers, what a deal. Seems like the "w's" around here are slipping...
 
i order a 1954 non referb and when it arrived it had the bbq paint,very disapointed ,and with cost of return shipping it wasnt worth the hasel to return it.
 
As with all soviet refurbs mix of tula and izhevsk parts is possible. So the rifle itself was made at tula but receiver cover was force matched and its Izzy 53 dated. In reallity as long as the gun is functional and in good useable condition then there is no reason to be upset. Put it on EE if not what is desired, some one would buy it just as an example of weird stuff that happens in sks world.
As for WR I won't deal with them as soon as they said Mosin has no safety.

If it was labeled as a Tula refurb, then yes. The seller specifically labelled it as an Izzy and charged extra $ for it, so I would be a little ticked-off too. Hopefully this is resolved to the OP's satisfaction.

Phins13, thanks for the support. Its a matter of principal for me to return this SKS and to ensure that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

gewehr76, I appreciate your positive outlook on this, and you are right, because it is a unique SKS because of the odd referb. I am not going to keep this sks given what has transpired.
