Anybody familiar with Norinco NP29?

The rear sight dovetail is a standard Colt 1911 dovetail. Any Colt 1911 sight will fit. I installed the LPA model on several.

The front sight dovetail is non-standard and narrow. It needs to be widened to suit the front sight you buy - like this:

Or, you can paint the existing chromed sight, or file the chrome off it and blue the face.
 
I ordered mine from Durham Outdoors. They offered free shipping and seeing as they are in Ontario I thought it might be quicker than the other place I found which was Dan Chasse in Quebec.
 
I have an older Marstar NP-29. It has been a reliable pistol and I can't recall many jams despite it being unmodified.

I have the Norinco mags and a couple of Mecgars.

It's been a good gun.

I just got my NP29 from the ammo source. When they had their 15% off black Friday sales. With the already 5% off norc with free shipping. Must say its quite good looking. Need to clean it up tonight and post some pics for you guys to see.
 
A lot of that 6 inch plus size group at 25 yards out will be due to yourself. It's harder to shoot a handgun well for small groups than many of us can imagine. When I shoot the odd night of indoor bullseye at the club's indoor range just losing focus a little can cause me to produce groups of this size. But get into that Zen like mode and suddenly the same gun and ammo can manage sub 4 inch groups. Been there done it so often that I wonder what in hell it takes to hold that focus. It's a really small thing but it has to be there or we end up with groups like this.

There's no doubt that these NP29's can shoot. When offered one to try I put 7 out of the 9 rounds through a dandelion seed puff ball from about 10 yards away. This included cutting off the center bud and then cutting the stalk about an inch below the end ON COMMAND! So the guns are good at the core. They just need some TLC to finish up the ragged details.
 
Yup. I know it's me. But i'm still happy with that. It shows i'm improving. For some reason i could shoot my 45 more accurate. I still have not figured that out. I still kick myself for selling it.
I used to own a Spartan and i could get 4" groups at 25 yards with it. My Jaw just about hit the ground. I tried again to see if it was fluke and i did it again.
I never used to be able to group at 25 yards at all with my NP29. then i got the trigger worked and after that i got that 6" group. Trigger work was definitely worth it.
 
I have a Gunnar tuned NP29 inbound now from Armco. Will be a fun addition to my 1911's in 45acp.

before gunnar stopped doing nork specials, I had him do my np29. I actually bought it off another cgn user who couldn't get it to work - got it for a song. Spend the 1 benjamin and got a smooth like butter gun back.

I bought one of the first gen ones way back in the late 90's, was a great pistol and was very reliable. I smoothed the serrations on the slide and a couple other rough edges but that's all I ever did. The trigger was very good and it was accurate enough for a $300 pistol. I ended up selling it to a buddy who wanted it and every now and then I consider trying to figure out something to trade with him to get it back.
I'm not usually a big fan of Norinco products but their 1911's seem to be pretty good reliability-wise.
