Cleaning the front of a stainless revolver cylinder

Anyone out there got any good tricks on cleaning the front of the cylinder of my 686 ... also the cylinder gap and the rear of the cylinder ... I have tried Hoppes #9, soak and brush, much comes off but not all ... have also tried Hoppes and steel wool, more comes off but not all ... anything that will bust this crud once and for all?

Maybe try Flitz stainless polish or Nevr-Dull Magic Wadding Polish. You can buy both from CT.

Remove cylinder and run thru dishwasher along with other dishes comes out BNIB minty every time I run mine thru twice a year....sounds nuts i know...no joke It works

Brass brush and hoppes always works for me but i clean mine after every trip.

It's a pet peeve of mine too. I need to clean the front of the cylinder regularly, I just use some of the blue metal polish, I forget the name of it. Put it on with a Q tip and remove it with a soft cloth.
I've heard of a few different things that folks use, pencil erasers, different cleaners but the dishwasher is a first.

If the frame is polished SS finish, I just use Fitz and a microfiber cloth. Comes out looking new. That's the only thing I dislike about brushed or satin SS finished revolvers.

Anyone ever try running them through an ultrasonic cleaner? Does the carbon get cleaned off the cylinder?

I've given up on trying to keep my stainless cylinders stain free, they will be forever blackened.

Ick! That looks nasty. What kind of filthy dog ammo are you using anyway?
The cylinder on my 629 is discoloured too but from heat not from nasty looking scunge.

X2 or 3 on the Birchwood Casey lead removing cloth, all my revolvers look like new, easy peasy.

1. Quit shooting PMC ammo.
2. Spray with bore cleaner of you choice and let sit for 10 minutes.
3. Use Crest spinbrush, bore cleaner to remove crud (could also use any fine polishing compound)
4. Treat clean cylinder with Froglube to avoid crud buildup in the future.
5. Ignore store specials on PMC ammo.

Yeah, I was in Wal Mart to get toothpaste and saw the spinbrush display: "Heeeeeyyyyy!!" You can get them for less than $10 and they sure do a great job on the nooks and crannys. One is in my cleaning box at all times now, especially for cleaning my GP100.

I use a magic eraser everywhere but the cylinder face, usually too much build up there for that, Then its a nitro solvent and a toothbrush
