I prefer the reduced muzzle blast and recoil of the 308 family vs long action equivalents - thus I'm not too concerned about the Tikka being a long action design. The T3 is a light rifle to begin with so not too concerned about the "disadvantage" of it being a long action.

It is not all disadvantage either... you can seat out any bullet you choose... maximize case capacity and increase velocity and energy... and never really notice a practical difference between a long and short action.

T3 were factory chambered in 338 Federal. Purchasing one of those outright wouldn't be much more then rebarreling the 7.08 and you would have 3 rifles .

I'd say that you buy the 338 Tikka. If you're set on rebarreling, sacrifice the 260. When I shoot out the 308 barrel on my 76 in 30 years, I'll be bumping it up to the Fed.

Id personally go the 33 mate.
Having used a Whelen and now the 708, i think the .33 would be a great calibre in the real world, apparently it lacks online.
