New production SKS available?

Hi All,

Forgive my ignorance - I've been ignoring red rifles to my detriment recently. I'm thinking of picking up another SKS, after selling my last one some time ago and realizing I still have an excess of 7.62x39 sitting unused.

Having sold a nice refurb russian, I am loathe to replace it with another of the same type (although I will if necessary :)) - I remember some time ago there was discussion of new production chinese SKSs on the canadian market.

Are there any chinese SKSs still being offered? and if so, could someone point me in the direction of a site sponsor that has them available?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

that ship as sailed, there is the odd one that comes up for sale on the EE if your patient, and there are some very nice super grade russian rifles at Tradexx and Weimajack

Tradex & weimajack haven't got a great selection like they used to. But some do pop up on the EE from time to time. Even the norc production ones show up.

The Chinese SKS for sale weren't new production, they were made from the 1950s-1980s, they just hadn't been issued and were exported to Canada in that condition.

One of the non-refurbished ones weimajack has for sale right now will be just as good.

There are still lots of surplus Chinese SKS's available, however the Chinese exporters jacked the price of them up to the point the importers told them to pound sand. Not worth bringing them in. Thus the unavailability of the Chinese SKS's at present. Unless the Chinese have a change of heart and lower the price again, don't expect to see them in numbers any time soon.

loathe to replace it with a Russian referb? but you will take a comecial new Chinese? from personal experience refurb russias are much better than the new Chinese by a longshot

Unless you're like Marstar and sell them at 1000% profit after "finding" a few crates in their warehouse from when they paid pennies for them and were selling them for $75....;)

Well they weren't really 75 dollars it was a package with the ammo (the ammo wasn't the cheapest around at the time) regardless it was a wicked price and I wish I would have bought more then I did I have a couple still in the Cosmo though :). Honestly man most refurbished or used rifles shoot just as good and will last just as long. If your just going to shoot them anyways it's a pain to strip all that greasy Cosmo off anyways. The difference is negligible, the Russian laminate look about the best imo the Chinese ones seem more accurate some of the times. I wouldn't dwell on that fact as its not even a real noticeable difference and the round and rifle aren't known for super tight groups. You either get a good one or you get one that needs a tweek or you get a bad one. There are some still out there put on add up on the ee for what you want to buy. I also have a D in Cosmo and the original box. Unicorns are out there. The last one I bought still has a bunch of Cosmo in the action stock and bayo so as far as I'm concerned it's basically as "new" and I didn't pay a premium for it either. I still have to bake out the stock and boil the parts get her right cleaned and oiled. Bore is shiny gas piston tube is too so it was cleaned each time, This was just a couple months ago. If you shoot corrosive you might want a chrome lined barrel but by definition it should not be as accurate just more durable in theory. They all rust if you don't clean out the corrosive salts. Don't overthink it unless you just wanna hedge a bet the unused Cosmo rifle is going to explode in value over the years. If you just going to shoot it why even bother ? I shoot my beater stock chicom and just collect the other ones there all the same. Corwin arms get a hold of them they have some nice Russian ones

Downfall, this is what it has been about long before the west was ever found by Chris. If your the one selling, you try and get what ever you can and the market dictates the price.

That Marstar situation sounded like good business to me. Whatever those guys can turn for profit is ok in my books. They still supply many things at great prices and if they brought them into the country in the first place, they deserve to gain any profit they can from them.

I just hope they keep doing what they do.
